you and justin had been married for about 2 years your 3 year anniversary was coming up and you had no idea what to get him. you felt kind of guilty because you had just gotten the reminder from your calendar that your anniversary was tomorrow and now you were planning a last minute gift, you were stuck though. you had been thinking about it all day writing down decent ideas that had popped in your head. justin was going to be home in approximately 2 hours so you had to hide this list soon. for now your only decent ideas were, 1. A pair of shoes he's been wanting, 2. a blanket with your face on it, and 3. a box of handwritten "open when" letters.

"dang man! can't believe I forgot my own anniversary, val's gonna be so mad at me bro" he said as he took a deep sigh and looked down.
"just go to walmart and get her some flowers and chocolate or sum?" the former teammate of his, ja'marr, said.
"man, this is a lot more important than chocolate and flowers, this is my 3rd year anniversary" justin had ja'marr on speaker as he was driving home.
"okay, so this is when you use your money that we all know you got and take her to a fancy restaurant or something, you still have one more day and I mean you're justin jefferson you could use that to your advantage."
"I ain't gunna use my fame to get me stuff, ill just try and find a nice restaurant and get her some jewelry or stuff. anyways I'm home so I'll call you later and see you next week."
"next week? why we gonna see each other next week??" ja'marr asked genuinely confused.
"we playing eachother remember?"
"oh yea, completely slipped my mind, well alright joe just got here so ill see you next week."
"alright man say hey to joe"
"will do."
and with that the phone went silent. you were sitting in your driveway looking up fancy restaurants to take valerie to when you suddenly heard a knock on the passenger side of your car you quickly shifted your head and saw your wife standing there with shorts and a crop top which she slept in, you unlocked the door for her.
"it's about time, i was about to turn into ice with the amount of time it took you to unlock the door." val said not refraining from letting her first sentence of the day to you to be with attitude.
you rolled your eyes knowing she probably was only waiting there for 6 seconds.
"so...how was your day at work?" she said
"it was aight" i said even though if he was honest he felt terrible all day ever since he got the reminder that their anniversary was going to be tomorrow and he let the most important day slip his mind.
"I don't believe it."
dang, she knew me a lot better than I gave her credit for.
"just a little nervous for next week's game"
"that's not it"
now she was getting annoying with how well she knew me.
"that's it baby I promise." I said try to sound as convincing as possible.

when I saw justin pull into our driveway I could hear ja'marr talking it was vague but it was clear enough for me to know it was marr. once I saw him stop talking I had concluded he was done and went outside I was in my shorts and tank top with my socks on, I was too excited to say hi to him that I didn't even bother running to our room to get my shoes so I just went outside and knocked on the passenger door. as soon as I got in there I noticed something was off with justin and for some reason that made me feel even more guilty about forgetting our anniversary because whatever was bothering him I didn't want to make it worst by getting him a last minute gift when I knew he deserved better but it was better than nothing at least. I asked what was wrong and he lied to me, I could feel it.
~tiny time skip (like fr it's like 5 minutes)~
"darling, i know you a lot better than you give me credit for, I know that ain't it you'll be having more fun at that game than you will scared."
"I forgot our anniversary" he blurted out.
I felt my face get red.

i noticed her face getting red and I started to get scared I never have seen her face get red unless i called her beautiful or sum. then she started laughing but not just any laugh a hysterical laugh that was so contagious i had to literally bite my tongue from laughing because I didn't want to make her more mad. then she shocked me with what she said next.
"i love you so so much justin" she said in between regaining her breaths from laughing so hard.
"i thought you would hate me?" I said so confused than ever.
"i forgot it too" she said regaining her hysterical laugh again.
"wait really?" i asked thinking she was just playing with me and was about to go off on me even though she never in our 3 years of marriage had.
"yeah, i got the reminder this morning and started panicking because it completely slipped my mind."
i now allowed myself to laugh with her.
"i swear, we connected by the bone or sum" i said in between my laughs. she was started to die down on her laughter which caused me to as well. i took this moment to look at her and i was reminded just why i put a ring on it we were so alike and she was always so calm about everything and she was so beautiful. i think she noticed me staring at her because she reached over and leaned in a bit to kiss me, i filled the gap and she gave me a peck before she pulled away.
"that's all I get after you haven't seen me all day"
she hummed a "mhm" and then said "you forgot our anniversary" with sass on her face.
"with all due respect ma'am so did you"
then her beautiful laugh came out and i chuckled with her.
"cmon let's go inside, i don't want the pozole to get cold"
i was so excited once she said "pozole" she knew how to make me happy. i think she caught on to my excitement because she said "dang you more excited about the pozole than you were about me"
"i mean...can you blame me...it's pozole"
she hit my chest and opened her door and started walking out. i shut off the car and walked inside with her.
