A fellow Cassarian shipper hosted a Cassarian Month in August 2023, and I decided to turn my entries for it into a month of different AUs! So here they are, along with short stories to go with the art!
Before the curse, Varian and Cassandra met and fell in love. But Varian's stepmother, Queen Gothel, was jealous of their relationship. She knew that if Varian married the fair maiden who had skin as white as snow and lips as red as blood, he would become king and Cassandra would be his queen. Gothel would not allow that to happen!
Putting a curse on a simple red apple, Gothel tricked Cassandra into taking a bite from it. This led to Cassandra falling into a deep, eternal slumber. Nothing could awaken her from such a state.
Nothing, that is, except for true love's kiss. Gothel believed such a ridiculous thing could never work, but to her surprise and horror Varian kisses Cassandra and awakens her! After learning of his stepmother's horrible deeds, Varian banishes her from the kingdom. He becomes king, and eventually he and Cassandra are married and she becomes queen. The way things are meant to be.
