Chapter 3 : Disease

Thump! Thump! Thump!

Shoko hears loud stomp of feet running down the corridor. She gets up from her chair. "Gojo—"

"Where is Utahime?", he urges

Gojo looks like a total mess. His jacket flings unbuttoned. The white shirt underneath stains with no one's but his own blood. Sweat dripping from his forehead to his temples down his jaws. He has been through a lot, yet here he is, worrying about Utahime

"Are you okay? You should get yourself treated too"

"I'm fine. I just— I need to see Utahime now", he storms towards the infirmary

"Wait!", Shoko is quick to stop him

"What? Why? Is anything wrong?"

"Actually.. Damn it!", she swears under her breath

"What is it? Shoko, talk to me!"

"Utahime-senpai is not here. She has been taken to the hospital"

"Hospital? Why she needs to be there. Can't you— can't anyone here treat her?", he pauses only to realise. "Is it serious?", he quivers, voice breaking at the end of his sentence

"She.. is in critical condition"

Gojo can hear the sound of his heart shattering into pieces when Shoko nods her head, a little bit reluctant

"She fainted and wasn't breathing when Haibara and Nanami first found her. Thankfully we managed to resurrect her with CPR"

Shoko explains as they stand outside of the wardroom, only allowed to see Utahime through the glass wall

"You are saying that.. she almost died? Because of me?", Gojo's voice breaking like glass, fragile

Shoko sighs. "Apparently, the greater the danger you get into, the pain Utahime feels will intensify. And if you happen to get physically injured, the worse case scenario is.. she could die"

"How come I didn't know about this before?"

"I was requested by senpai to not tell you. She doesn't want you to get distracted because of her"

Gojo closes his eyes shut, ruffling his already messed up hair until they get messier

"Anyway, what happened back there?", Shoko wants to know. "Who the hell did you and Geto fight?"

Gojo does not say a thing. He clenches his jaw, feeling the way his chest constricting whenever he tries to breath

Fushiguro Toji

The man who was granted with Heaven's Restrictions. He was the one Gojo and Geto fought, which they lost

Must he blame Fushiguro Toji for what happens to Utahime now? Because he was stronger that he could defeat them without batting an eye? Or perhaps it was Gojo who was defected. He was weak, hence he failed to protect Utahime

Knowing that Utahime would suffer in his stead, Gojo went feral and repulsively killed that man. However, what did he gain from that? Riko is dead, and now Utahime has to deal with the consequences of his failure

"Stupid!", Gojo curses out, angry with himself

"It's my fault"

"I was weak"

"I made her like this"

"She could die because of me", he says shakily

"Stupid!"

Gojo repeats the same words again and again. He is feeling frustrated, mad, annoyed, dismayed, at nobody but himself

Every day Gojo will come and wait outside the wardroom for Utahime to wake up. Some times he will show up with a bouquet of flowers, hoping that Utahime can receive at least one of them. But they end up wasted

It has been a little more than a week, and Utahime is still yet to progress

The doctor says that Utahime has passed the critical period. Her body also shows positive reaction and a normal brain activity, but she just won't regain herself and wake up yet

At last, they conclude to take Utahime back to the school and have the sorcerer physician to take care of her, also trying to figure out a solution

Shoko has been the middle person between Gojo and the doctor, updating him regarding Utahime from time to time
