Sorry I stopped writing for a while, but it's fiiiine, I just re-appear, and continue the story haha.
My dad glanced at me, he nodded his head and looked at me, asking if I knew that person.
I looked at him and shrugged, shaking my head to tell him that no, I have no idea who that person is.
I moved out of the sight of my father and stopped time, I walked to the main door, pulled my dad away a little, and opened the door.
There, I saw a short guy, with middle length brown hairs, round blue glasses and a little backpack.
"He looks, quite normal, I don't think he's from the government, or someone dangerous" I said.
Just in case, I checked his pockets, nothing, no weapons, or anything sharp.
I took a look into his backpack, I see a few books, pen and papers, I don't want to pry too much, so I won't read it.
Once I made sure he was safe, and there was no one nearby, I went back inside, closed the door, and pushed my dad back into place, I then went around the corner of the wall, so my dad couldn't see me, and I unfroze time.
"It was a joke dad, I know him, he's a friend! You can let him in." I said.
My dad agreed and opened the door, the young man entered, went up the stairs, and saw the living room in front of him, the kitchen on the left, and on the right, a little corridor with 4 doors.
I gestured to tell him to follow me, and entered the far left door in the corridor, which is my room.
He followed right after me, I closed the door, and sat down.
"Now, who are you ? You seem to be a teenager, did we meet at school or something ?"
It was a lie, just to see if he would pretend knowing me or not, I left school about a while ago already.
"No, and, I am an adult, I am 18yo, but, that's not the matter, I need your help!" He said.
I answered, perplexed, "What do you mean, how could I help you, and why would I help you ?"
He stared at me, and replied, "I know you can help me, thanks to my ability."
I stared at him, with a mix of confusion, and shock, the mention of "ability" got my attention.
"Go on?" I asked him, curious.
"My brother disappeared all of a sudden, and I need your help." He said.
"That's not what I mean, go on, tell me about your ability, as proof that I can trust you."
He looked at me, hesitant, then, he started to speak.
"My power allows me to find anything I want." He replied.
"So, how does it work ?" I replied, already thinking about the answer he might give.
"I searched for 'Someone who can help me find my brother', and, it bought me to you." he said. He didn't seem to lie, or if he did, he was a good liar.
"But, that doesn't explain how you got my name." I replied.
"Oh, that comes with my ability, when I search something, I also have some basic knowledge about it, like"-he seems to be looking at something-"Name : jade, Age : 20, Gender : Female..." I interrupted him.
"What are you looking at? You seem very focused, looking in the void."
"Ah! Well... That ? It's uhh." He hesitated, visibly anxious.
"Tell me, or I won't help you." I said in a firm tone.
"Repeat after me..."-He seemed hesitant.-"{Status Window}"
I proceeded, and a blueish semi transparent hologram appeared in front of me.
The blueish window is empty, except a mail logo, with a red dot on it, upon clicking it, I notice a message.
{Congratulation, human, you managed to open the status window before its announcement!}
I decided to close it, in order to focus on the conversation.
"So, do you see it ?" He asks.
"Oh, yeah, I do see it!" I replied.
{Ding!} I received a new notification.
"Don't worry, you'll get used to it, it's not that hard to under"-{Ding!}-"stand." The teenager answered.
{Ding!} I received another notification.
These sounds, seemingly from nowhere, yet that I heard clearly, did not seem to affect him.
"Well, now that I know about your power, and that window thing, I'll ask the important question, who are you ?" I asked, ignoring the notifications sounds.
{Ding!} It kept going...
{Ding!}
"Oh, haha, sorry, I forgot to introduce myself, my name is"-{Ding!}-"Caleb!" He said, apologizing for his rudeness.
{{Ding!}
"Well, nice to meet you, Caleb." I said in a somewhat irritated tone.
"Why in the world am I getting so many notifica"-{Ding!} It interrupted my thought.-"tions ? It's so annoying!" I thought to myself, letting out a sigh.
"Are you ok ? You seem an-"-{Ding!}-"gry?"
"Oh, yeah, I'm fine, don't worry, just these notifications are starting to annoy me." I said, followed by another notification.
{Ding!}
Caleb, confused, asked, "What notifications ?"
"You don't know what I mean ?" I asked, just as confused.
A new pop-up appeared in my view, without me doing anything.
{A certain higher being seems to be amused by the unexpected turn of event.}
"What ?" I said instinctively.
The boy looked at me, confused, "What... what ?"
"Never mind, forget it, it's fine." I replied.
"Thank god, it seems to have stopped, it was getting on my nerves." I thought with a sigh of relief
"Anyway, going back to your brother, from what I understand, your power lets you find everything, so-"
Caleb interrupted me.
"I tried already, but I can't find my brother with it, it just says 'Searching...' Over and over, so, maybe he's far away, or maybe he's..." Caleb stopped speaking, and looked sad.
"Do you know the rules of your powers ? Like, the area ? Or any drawbacks maybe ?" I asked, curious.
He answered, "Yeah, hold on, let me check, {Status Window}."
He was reading, something, then explained.
"Ok, so, I can find anything I search, up to 100Km radius around the user, unless the user is in an undetectable area."
"I understand, I'm sure he's fine, I assume your power led you to me for a good reason, so don't lose hope!" I replied, to cheer him up a bit.
Caleb nodded.
In the room next to mine was my father's room, he was watching television, the walls are thin, so we could hear some of it inside my room.
We couldn't hear everything, but we both heard something important...
"...sudden disappearances during the past 24 hours..."
And some more piece of info.
"...at least 200 reported missing..."
