first day

following ten weeks of uninterrupted sleep, my alarm served as an  unwelcome sound, jolting me back into consciousness as i sat up, groggily. it took me a few minutes to adjust to my surroundings, until i caught sight of the freshly ironed school uniform laid out on my desk chair.

seeing as it was the first day of a new school year, i decided i should probably put some more effort into my appearance. i made sure not to wrinkle my uniform and tied my hair into two simple pleats which were held together by pieces of pink ribbon. for makeup i used my favourite concealer, mascara, highlight and lipgloss. i wasn't looking to get told off by any teachers for having too much on.

after finishing my normal morning routine i went downstairs for some breakfast, only to find my twin brother passed out at the dining table.

"si, wake up!" i exclaimed, clipping him on the back of the head. he huffed in response and lifted his head slowly.

"morning..." he groaned, crumbs stuck to his mouth. i sat down and started buttering my toast.

"what time did you go to bed last night?" i asked, through chewing.

"i have no idea." he sighed, before getting back to work on his own food.

"is that because you spent all night wanking over carli?" i chuckled, as he reached across the table and flicked me on the forehead.

"fuck off! wanker..." he retorted, although i could see his cheeks turn red. i decided to lay off the teasing until we at least got to school.

simon and i had form together, so we sat side by side waiting for the teacher to turn up. instead, a geeky looking boy with a briefcase and a name badge appeared. a new kid, will.

will started banging on about gilbert and how much of an arsehole he was, though unfortunately for him gilbert actually did turn up about halfway through his speech.

"you can see from his rather natty badge, this is your new classmate, will." gilbert introduced, as will hung his head in shame. he then announced that simon would have to look after will, as they had most classes together.

"sir, that's not fair! look at his briefcase and blazer! his hair is a bit gay as well and that badge... i mean that badge alone..." simon protested, as i hit him gently on the chest.

"simon, don't be horrible. sir, if simon doesn't want to look after him, i will." i volunteered, as will looked up hopefully.

"fine, but it's your funeral cooper." gilbert sighed. his sigh was shortly followed by the bell and the sound of chairs scraping, as everyone stood up.

"oh and one more thing. the first day of term drink down the black horse... this tradition is not only ridiuclous but illegal. don't get excluded before you've even started." gilbert warned, as we all shuffled out of class awkwardly.

"what's he talking about? is everyone going out for a drink?" will asked, approaching me and simon.

"um... no... i have to go this way..." simon said, edging away awkwardly.

"don't listen to him. everyone will be heading down to the black horse tonight for a drink and you're welcome to come, even if simon is being a dickhead about it. you can be my plus one." i smiled, as will and i walked through the corridors.

to tell you the truth, i just felt so bad for him. i mean, he had a briefcase. i could only imagine the insults that were just waiting to be hurled at him.

"oh! well, thank you very much. i didn't quite catch your name earlier." will replied, as i held out my hand.

"i'm f/n cooper, simon is my twin brother. it's nice to meet you, will." i said, as he shook my hand in response.
