Sweet Sixteen Incertitude

A Teen's Ode to Science

Opting bio-science for my higher studies was perhaps the best decision of my life.

Earlier, my world was too small, my mind too narrow---
I did not care about the secrets that Nature hides,
About the intricate phenomena that makes
the World go 'round.
My curiosity was perhaps dead, my life a sad existence.

But now I've changed.
And it's all because of Science.
I can feel my mind broadening, my thoughts going deeper.
My world is becoming bigger,
Yet it is but a tiny oyster, for me to study,
Play with and understand.

Every new concept I learn
Fans the flames
Of my ever-growing lust for knowledge.

My curiosity is now that of an infant in the why-phase,
A toddler who keeps asking questions about everything---
Why is the grass green? Why is sky blue?
Why do fish swim and birds fly?
They maybe silly or unimportant, but the joy in finding answers surpasses all prejudice.

Exposure to Science has made me respect Nature
so much more,
I revel in the simplistic beauty of the structure
of a bacterium,
I am in awe of the elegant Newton's equations
that can explain any motion,
Of the atoms that come together to form
Everything I see around me.

My reverence for scientists has grown manifold---
Who have dedicated their entire life
In the quest for Scientific Knowledge,
In Search for the Truth.
Curie, Raman, Einstein, Heisenberg, Watson and Crick,
And innumerable others who have shown us how
We can understand our World better.

Yet the quest for Scientific Knowledge is not over-
There are so many things we yet don't know,
Science is but a continued effort---
To unravel the mysteries of our Universe.
And every solution leads to new questions,
Fueling the Scientist's desire to solve them,
Leading them down the never-ending, enthralling path
Of Scientific Endeavour.
