CHAPTER ONE

OCEAN

Today happens to be one of those days, days where I don't understand how I feel. Days where I can't seem to figure anything out.
Living is tough, all this struggle has to be for a good cause.
Struggling so much for a future we might not even be part of. Is it even worth it?
I know I sound depressed, maybe I am, maybe I am not, believe me I am yet to figure that out myself.

Deciding to push my thoughts aside, I thought about what to do to take my mind off things.
I happen to be seated outside my apartment doing absolutely nothing. Sitting alone made my mind wonder round the clock, thinking about different things.
I decided to put a call through to my close friends Ben and Trent to see if they wanted to hang. I had few friends here in college, I wasn't a loner or anything like that but I prefer to keep not too many friends. That doesn't mean I wasn't quite known, I could pull up a crowd of my own if I wanted to.

I thought back to my first year in college when I had just met Ben and Trent. I didn't take much liking to Ben as he was the class representative. He acted like an arrogant snub but with time, I got to realise he's just as cool as Trent. Trent was quite the sweetheart, very calm and collected. Getting to know them has been one of the best things ever, they were there for me whenever I needed them to be.

Ring....
Ring....
Ring....

'Hey Ocean, what'sup?' Ben said.

'Hi Ben, not quite much, I actually called to see if you wanted to hang out'. I said.

'Well sure, I always have the time to hang out with you' Ben said.

'Right, so where you at?' I asked.

'I am currently at the diner' He said.

'Alright, I'll be there in 20' I said and hung up.

I stood on my feet and headed straight to the diner. The diner is kind of like a hanging out spot for every student at Miami state university. It is about a 20 minutes walk from my apartment but right now, I could really use the walk.
I put in my ear pods and clicked on 'Beautiful Mistakes by Maroon 5 ft Megan thee stallion'.
I couldn't help but think about how the last few years have been. Alot has happened that hurt and broke me. It has been really hectic and I just wanted to feel better and not feel so much pain anymore.

I got to the diner in no time, heading inside I scanned the entire room for Ben and Trent but neither of them was in sight.
I stepped outside to call Ben, he had better not pull a prank on me. If he messed with me, I was definitely going to hang his head.
Taking out my phone I was about to give Ben a call when a black car pulled up in front of me.
I wondered who was in the car and I couldn't see a thing has the windows were tinted.
About to step away from the car, the doors opened revealing Ben and Trent.

'Ocean get your ass in the car' Ben yelled

'Dude, that scared the fuck out of me. I was wondering if I was about to be kidnapped' I said while getting into the back seat of the car.

'Baby Ocean, how are you doing?' Trent asked

'I'm alright Trent' I said.

I looked at the driver seat to find an unfamiliar face there. I guess he owns the car cause all these two own are a pair of legs.

'Hi' I said looking towards his direction and all he did was nod in return. Rude much?

A phone ringing made Ben and Trent snap their heads towards the stranger. I have to answer this, the stranger said stepping out of the car.

'That dude looks familiar but I can't really figure out who he is, not even sure I know him. I said to Ben but well you can't blame me, I hardly interact much.

'You've never seen Preston? that's weird, we hang out alot' Trent said

'I see, anyways where are we headed?'' I asked Trent

'Preston has something to do at home, so we're leaving the diner. He's going to give us a ride home since you know, it's quite late' He said.

He was right, It was indeed quite late. I was the weird friend for wanting to hang out at late hours.
The stranger whose name I now know is Preston got back into the car and drove off into the direction of Ben and Trent's apartment.
Yes, they are roommates.

We've got tests tomorrow guys, do not sleep in, trust me you don't want to miss it' I said to the both of them.

'This is like the 15th time you're telling us that in two days. We won't sleep in. We promise' Ben said

We got to their house in no time, we all stepped out of the car and just when I was wondering how I am supposed to get my ass home. Ben spoke up

'Preston, do me a favour and drop of my baby girl now would you?' Ben asked looking at Preston

'Sure, no problem' He said.

Thanks for not asking if I wanted to ride with a stranger Ben.

Once I said my goodbyes to Ben and Trent, I opened the passenger door and got in as Preston was ready to leave. My apartment was about a 20 minutes drive to theirs.
I decided to make small talks with Preston after giving him the direction to my house after all he was being nice and giving me a ride home.

'This happens to be my first time seeing you, I'm Ocean and thank you for the ride' I said

'My first time seeing you as well, I'm Preston as you already know and you're welcome'  He said. Okay, so he isn't rude.

'You're sure we're in the same department?' I asked

'I believe so, well according to Ben' He said laughing

He pressed down the accelerator making the car go faster.

'Can you slow down, It's late and I'm sure we don't want to get pulled over for going past the speed limit' I said laughing

That only made him laugh and go faster which made me laugh more.
For some weird reason, I loved the way he laughed. It made my heart tingle in ways I couldn't explain.
Looking ahead, I saw my apartment coming into view, well 20 minutes went by pretty fast. I thought.

'You can pull up over there' I said

He pulled up right in front of my apartment. Stepping out I thanked him once again for the ride.

'Thank you for the ride once again Preston' I said

'You're welcome Ocean' He replied Igniting his car then zoomed off.

Stepping into my apartment, I looked at my roommate Amelia only to see that she was fast asleep. Well I guess it's back to me and my thoughts.
I decided to take a shower and changed into my pyjamas. Time to get some sleep I guess.
