"Mmm, hey Rok Soo?"
His phone was propped precariously on the dashboard, the call on speaker so he could listen and drive.
"Yeah?"
"Thanks— sniff, for being here. I'm sorry that I'm such a—a," he pauses to take in a breath, it's congested and snotty, Kim Rok Soo wonders if he forgot his coat, and was sitting in the cold, "bad friend..."
He opened his mouth immediately to rebuke it, but was cut off by a small dramatic wail from the other end.
Kim Rok Soo stepped down harder on the pedal, not caring for the amount of people he cut off.
"Choi Jung Soo, you absolute dumbass. Don't say shit like that and just— I'm... almost there."
Kim Rok Soo was never the best at cheering people up, let alone know how to comfort a crying person.
He looked around at the closest landmark he could find, he was glad that there were so many in their area.
"I'm passing the marketplace now, just wait a moment... alright?"
His own voice sounded apologetic now, and he genuinely did feel bad, about Jung Soo feeling bad. Did that make any sense?
"Mmm..."
Choi Jung Soo's voice sounded more tired than before, Kim Rok Soo hoped that he would still be awake when he got there. He could only imagine the kind of stares he'd get for kidnapping a crying, now asleep, guy off the street into his car.
Specifically with the fact that his car just... naturally looked suspicious. A big pickup truck with dark windows and paint peeling everywhere... he wouldn't blame anyone.
He began to slow as he saw a head of familiar brown hair leaning against a pole, Choi Jung Soo looking up the moment he heard the sound of the car pulling up.
Kim Rok Soo jumped out of his car, the engine still on, and ran towards the man in front of him, enveloping him in a rare hug.
"Hey..."
" Sniffle– hi, I um... thanks. Really Rok Soo, thank you."
"Haa– just get in the car, you are getting my shirt all disgusting with your snot. I'll get you a smoothie and we can talk."
"Mm..."
Choi Jung Soo turned to get into the car and before stopping and turning around to face Kim Rok Soo again.
"Rok Soo... again, thank you, so much."
Kim Rok Soo only smirked lightly at him as he opened his mouth again to speak.
"Hah, I get it you punk, now do you want me to get you that smoothie or not?"
They got into the car.
***
Kim Rok Soo, despite all he'd said before about probably never being in this apartment again, in this parking lot, still ended up here nonetheless.
He pulled into the driveway, a nostalgic look had fallen across his face as he hit the brakes. Looking down at the lobby with surprise, it had changed, as little as that was, but that didn't make the change any less profound.
"Rok Soo-oppa~"
A voice from behind him, almost making him jump in surprise, he has almost forgotten what he was here for. As impossible as him forgetting was.
He had come here with Jang Suhye and Choi Jung Soo, to Choi Jung Soo's old apartment, (Choi Jung Soo's not Kim Rok Soo's, Kim Rok Soo had long moved on from calling that place his.) to get Choi Jung Soo's stuff back.
