the whole time, kaizen had been sitting in the waiting room motionless. he was too deep in his mind. all of the what if's ran through his mind in a circle. his nerves were still unsettled as he awaited the news of his brother.
he had said as many prayers to God as he could think of. he begged and begged that kayden live to see another day.
'what if he doesn't make it?'
was the one main question that kaizen was afraid to see the outcome of. if kayden didn't make it, then it was safe to say that kaizen wasn't going to make it either. kayden was the only, and last family member he had in his corner.
the only reason that kaizen hadn't gave up on life yet. kayden kept him sane in many ways that couldn't be explained. kaizen loved his little brother with all of his heart and guaranteed to make it stop beating if kayden didn't make it.
it sounded crazy, but it was true. if kayden went, then kaizen wouldn't have anything to live for and that scared him so bad.
"excuse me, family of kayden gaulden?" a little lady called out as she looked around the waiting room, her eyes eventually landing on kaizen's.
"right here." kaizen's coarse voice spoke, standing up while the woman approached them.
"the surgery went alright.. but kayden is now in a coma. he lost a lot of blood and is very lucky to be alive, he fought very hard. you guys are able to visit. please, let me know if you have any questions at all."
"how long is he gonna be in a coma?" ms. mason asked her, making sure to gently rub kaizen's back to comfort him.
"hopefully, he'll be down for a couple of days.. but honestly, there is no way for me to give you an exact answer." she sighed, handing her the papers.
"will he be able to play basketball again?"
"depending on how fast he can recover from all of his injuries, i'm sure he'll be able to play in due time."
