I walk out of my apartment now living in Las Angeles. I moved here after my father abandoned me, and my mother died when I was five years old.
"So what did you wanna do today?" Ivory asked. I shrugged.
"Maybe hunt for a job, I'm not sure. I do need a job so that I can afford months' rent. It's a lot of money to live in the role hotel." I stated, flailing my arms.
"I bet it is. It seems like a hassle to live there. That's why I just sucked it up and bought a house. Even if they are expensive here." Ivory complains.
I sighed and walked down repels street. "While I'm going to go start looking for jobs. And I'm assuming you have work to get to?" I asked. Ivory nodded and then bumped my shoulder.
"Cya later, Ev!" She parted from me running the opposite way. I went from Rick's pizza to meaty tacos, then to Bryce's salad. They all said that they "needed someone with experience" lame-ass excuses.

Three fucking hours. Three hours I wasted trying to find a job. And you know what the shitty part is? A few of them didn't take me because of my skin color! What has this world come to? I groaned as I fell back like I was in a trust fall onto my bed. Because I know I can trust an inanimate object to catch me.
I got a phone call from Ivory after I had settled down and gotten under my covers. Taking my hair out of my high ponytail, I answered the call, turning on my camera.
"Hey, you look rough," Ivory said. I nodded and smiled weirdly.
"Thank you, good ma'am. I've been told that a lot today, " I stated bluntly, trying to rub the tiredness away.
"So how was job hunting?" I shrugged. Then shuffled around trying to get comfortable.
"Not the greatest. No one accepted me. Either I have no experience or you're too dark of a color for the place." I tried to explain but it seemed like she was stuffing her face with food.
"Yeah, it's rough." She said simply.
Sooner or later I fell asleep on the phone and didn't even know. I woke up the next morning to my phone dead and drool on my pillow. My hair nearly touched it. Shooting up from my pillow I turned my pillow over.
Once I was up and ready to start the day I made breakfast. Pancakes with butter and maple syrup, then a little fruit bowl next to it. I smiled and then dug into my three-layered pancake tower. I hummed with satisfaction as I chewed and my tastebuds thanked me. I picked up the paper with job offers up that was sitting behind my plate. I looked at jobs and crossed out the ones that I had already been to.
"Let me inside asshole!" My brother Jack said. I groaned and got up unlocking the door. It immediately busted open and then he shut it. "I smell food," he said sniffing around. I shook my head. "You can't have any. That's my breakfast. And I do not feel like making anymore" I protested. He groaned but nodded.
"Anyways, I'm here to check in. How's the new place?" He asked touching the walls.
"It's good. But the jobs are hard. I got discriminated against for my color. And others said I was 'inexperienced' " I said rolling my eyes.
"Thats shitty" Jack groaned. I nodded agreeing. "Well, apparently most people are bitches here. If I would have known that. I wouldn't have moved here." He hummed while nodding and went to the door.
"Well, Goodluck sis. Your gonna need it in a place like this." Jack said bluntly as he walked out of my apartment. I sat back down, finished eating then looked at the paper again trying to finish my job hunting.
I saw an ad for a job called Amato's Revenge. Not sure what that place is. But I may as well check it out. Maybe tomorrow though. Today I want to just. Keep to myself. And get to know the place. So I'm not always so lost anywhere I'm going.
Packing my purse, I changed and brushed my teeth. I looked at my now dingy red-dyed hair and brown eyes. My slightly brown skin. Almost like honey. And then put sunglasses on my brushed now fizzy hair to keep it out of my eyes.
Slipping on my black and red Adidas I walked out of my apartment and down the street. People kept hitting my shoulders, they were talking on phones, some were holding hands walking down the street, and cuddling. But me, I was just walking with earbuds blasting some music so I didn't have to hear the people rant. The streets felt packed like it was New York or Tokyo.
I saw a big silver building but walked right by it.

"So you plan on going to some company tomorrow and interviewing for a job? I mean come on Ev, no offense. But you couldn't even get a job at fast food restaurants. Let alone a big ass company." She had a point. But it was one of my only options. It wasn't going to be the first place I went. But it is still a place for me to go on my list. Maybe they won't be as rude about my skin color or inexperience.
"Good point Ivory. But-" She cut me off. I hate when she cuts me off. I hate when anyone cuts me off. It pisses me off.
"So when do you plan on going here?" She asked. I shrugged my shoulders and puckered my lips thinking.
"I'm not sure. Maybe tomorrow. Or when I feel like going to a big company and embarrassing myself. Maybe in my next lifetime. Y'know. When I won't be as scared to do things. Hopefully." I prayed that if the whole next lifetime thing was true, in my next lifetime I would take more risks. Be more daring.
"Well, when you go tell me please." She said as she walked out of my apartment. I sighed going into the bathroom and brushing my teeth. Then I unclothed myself and got into the shower. Grabbing my loofah I scrubbed my body. Then washed my hair. But then I thought to myself. Maybe just maybe.
A new home wasn't the worst of ideas.
