The Summer I Fell for You. 2/5

Jeon Jungkook believes that he must have martyr in his previous life, or at least a very good man because he's been getting closer to her day by day. In his mind, it was a pure blessing to even be able to breathe in the same air as her or to stand within the same vicinity, and there she was, actively conversing with her.

She even knew his name!

When Jeon Jungkook video called his father and told him the news, his father joked that he needed to get on the first plane to Sydney. Growing up, he used to sit on the floor and watch the television, and as he grew older, he began to admire the young Korean-Australian female surfer who dominated competitions. She was not only young and attractive, but charismatic and humble in interviews. 

And much, much prettier in person. The camera was not sufficient to articulate her beauty. 

She'd been hanging around the lifeguard tower more often, occasionally accompanying him and James when they were paired together during rescues. But at every time outside of that, she was mainly out far from the red and yellow flags, catching waves—occasionally, catching struggling swimmers who'd she'd have to pick up on her board while waiting for further assistance. James, in a short time, picked up on his crush quickly and always called him in to swim to her to do a rescue. 

In his words, "... show her you're a hero, Jeon." 

He was thankful, of course, to be so close to a celebrity he'd admired. But at the same time, he couldn't help but feel flustered when James and the other boys teased him, occasionally even when she was nearby without a care in the world.

The story starts differently today, rather than meeting her in the surf or by the tower, he bumps into her (quite literally) while holding a box of snacks as he walks to the tower. It doesn't fall, thankfully, but she almost falls to the ground, prevented by his reflexes as he lets go of one hand to hold her quickly.

"I'm sorry I wasn't—" 

"Jungkook," her voice is distinct and causes his arms to sweat in nervousness as he puts down the box, giving him a clear vision of her, wearing a plain black Nike shirt and shorts, running down the path by the beach, "... what's in there? Wine from a rescue?" 

It was almost a tradition with how often it occurred, but the tower was generally stocked with wine or beers—usually gifts from people they'd rescued who wanted to communicate their appreciation for the work that they did. He shakes his head before opening the box.

"My parents sent some snacks from Busan so I wanted to let the others try—" 

Before he could finish, the sound of her gasp stops him entirely in his tracks as she bends down and picks up a few things.

"No way, these are my favourites!" She almost choked on her own excitement, "... can I have one too?"

Jeon Jungkook thinks about playing a bit and saying no, but the moment she looks up at him with a glimmer of excitement in her eyes, he can't help but nod, feeling nervous.

If she'd asked, he probably would've given her the entire box or purchased an entire Korean supermarket for her.

After she picks up a few goodies for herself, she quickly bounces up before leaning in and giving him a half hug. 

"Oops, sorry I'm a bit sweaty hey?" She realises before holding onto the snacks tightly, "... I'll see you in the water later!" 

He simply watches as she runs, finishing her routine. 

Jeon Jungkook isn't stupid, he knows by the way his heart flutters that he has a crush on her.

Park Chaeyoung believes that people who can't swim and are found drowning outside of the red and yellow flags should be fined at least, only because it was barely two hours into her practice and she'd already had to aid in three rescues. She hated it—while the lifeguards had told her that it was just the reality of work, she couldn't help but feel frustrated at people's ignorance. At least, if you didn't know how to swim, you should play in water that was permitted and protected, right?
