The banging and crumpling of the thunder, the lightning lighting up the darkness of the night, didn't help Dazai's nerves as it normally would but tonight, it made them much worse. Inhaling a deep breathe through his nose and exhaling through his mouth to try calm down his rapid heart beating in his ears. Unlatching the back of the trailer holding the door, he walks with it until it's flush with the sides of the trailer, so there wasn't a bang, looking around with nerves radiating of his body, anyone with clear view of him would be able to gather that information.

Looking down the barn and seeing his mother leading the abused horse to the trailer, trying to keep the quiet as possible so no neighbours were notified.

"What if Francis comes back?" He utters with nerves, looking his mother in the eyes.

"I hope he does. Look what he did to this horse-"
"MOM,LOOK OUT!" Dazai screams in fear, the horse rearing up onto his back legs and kicking out his front feet, just barely missing his mothers head.

"Woah, easy...easy boy" Tane Osamu softly spoke to the horse keeping herself calm so he would stay calm.  "Incase that fails..bribe him with candy, like I did when you were little"

"HEY" a tall slender man with short combed blonde hair, storms over to tane and tries grabbing the lead rope off her "What are you doing with my horse!?" Francis Fitzgerald shouts furiously at the two.

The black gelding strikes up again onto his hind legs successfully hitting the older man and knocking him tumbling to the floor, he looks up in fear at the gelding, who is rearing up and freaking out. After a moment he stand up to his feet and stand up square at Tane, trying to intimidate and put some fear into her.

"You won't be touching the horse any more. Mr Fitzgerald. Now get out of my way" she says confidently not allowing the blonde man to strike fear into her, or show her son that she can't stand up for herself

"You're on my property, with my horse. I don't think you'll get to far" he says cockily his deep American accent seeping through.

"Call the cops, you'll be saving me the trouble" Tane cuts him off. A moment of tense silence stills the air, the thundering and lighting still screaming from the sky, while Francis calculates what action plan to take.

"Once the police sees how he treats horses, they'll arrest him for sure"  Dazai says glancing at his mom, then back out the window, watching the lightning over the Hills.

Taking her eyes off the road, keeping one hand on the steering wheel, she turns to Dazai  "he's not calling anyone Francis is the worst type of horse dealer" she turns her attention back to the road, letting out of sigh "he just feeds them enough to keep them standing until the next meat truck arrives"

A big bang of lightning struck nearby, the black gelding In the back of the trailer freaks out and rears up causing the truck to swerve off an on the Road. Both of Tane's hands gripped the steering wheel, attempting to steady the truck.

"mom" Dazai speaks in a mix of words and fear.

"It's okay" she speaks calmly "he will settle down. Once we reach the main road." She glancing back in the rearview mirror, looking at the trailer, her eyes reaching the road once again.  "Don't worry, we're doing the right thing" another massive bang of thunder and lightning crashed down, freaking out the abused gelding, he kicked out at the side of the trailer, causing it to shift sideways and unhook from the truck. The truck swerve off the side of the road down into mountain side due to the shift of balance.

Everything seem to go in slow motion for Dazai he remembers calling out to his mum and his mum is reassuring words. the truck  continue to speed down the hill, crashing into all sorts of bushes, trees, and branches. Dazai looked up ahead. He saw a massive concrete wall and let out a massive scream. The truck went straight into the Wall and a piece of tree branch went straight through the windshield. The trailer with the horse was on top of the hill fell sideways. The horse is still inside. the truck was crashed into the wall with both Tane and Dazai inside.

"and on the case, we're working on good News Boss, I managed to squeeze an point of commission" he removed the phone from his ear when he heard another person calling him, looking down at who the caller was. He continued on telling his boss " just a sec, I have to take this". Accepting the other call he spoke confused.
"hello, who is this?" Stopping away from his assistant a look of other sadness envelops oda's face, tears quickly running down Oda's cheeks.

"Are you alright?" his assistant asks with worry, holding a comforting hand to his back.

"I need to go home" he says trying his best to not break down and make a fool out of himself in front of his assistant.

——————————-

"They're helping him breathe, but his vital signs are stable, doc says you can't guarantee when he's going to come to, so the next 24 hours will be critical." A tall man with long silver hair which ends just above his shoulders, with metallic blue eyes appear to have wrinkles, eye bags underneath them speaks with a southern accent leading Oda to Dazai's hospital room.

"Does Dad know?" Oda asks getting no response he looks at the mans face and by judging by the stern expression on his face, looking forward, he took that as a no. "come on, gramps. He's got the right"

"He give up that right a long time ago, oda" Fukuzawa spits angrily at the mention of their Dad, he gently pushes open the doors that led to Dazai's hospital room. Before fukuzawa could land a step in he realised oda wasn't following being and was frozen a couple steps behind the door, letting the door shut again, he stood beside oda looking in at Dazai.

The beeping of the heart monitor, plunged into oda's ears it was the only thing he could hear, eyes racking over his little brother, not moving, lifeless, frozen in that one spot and they didn't know when he was going to wake up.  If he was going to  a small annoying voice said in the back of oda's head, ignoring the stupid voice. His eyes finally reached Dazai's face. "what happened to his face?" He quietly spoke as if he was telling a top secret.

They were wires coming from underneath Dazai 's hospital clothes connected to his heart, a neck brace securely wrapped around his neck making sure there is no more damage can be caused to his spine, ventilator coming out of his throat, making sure he was breathing, dark purple, bruises, covering the right side of his face, a cut running across the eyelid and where there wasn't a bruise, there was a scratch Then white bandages wrapped around his head.
No 17-year-old should look like this.

"Windshield. They tell me he was lucky. But your mother-" Fukuzawa caught himself off, bringing a hand the wipe away the tear that was catching itself on his eyelashes a natural silence took place over them, while they both watched Dazai from outside the door, neither ready to explain to Dazai what happened when he woken up.

Walking up to the family owned cemetery, oda had his arm linked with his gramps looking around at who had arrived. Some people arrived on horseback and others in fancy cars, they opened the small gate that led to Tane's headstone, some men tipping there hats in respect and the females setting a single red rose on the grave whispering a short "rest easy" or "you will be missed".

"Last Christmas, I was home from New York and mom wanted me and Dazai to go on a ride with her" a wet chuckle came from oda's throat, wipping a couple tears away "it was 25° below but to mom it seemed like the perfect time to go for a ride. What's the perfect part mom? She laughed at me and said No flies" a couple of laughs went around from the people who worked around horses and agreed with her, a smile apparent on oda's face aswell "I try and tell myslef she lived an amazing life, and that she died doing something she loved to do. I just wish you didn't have to die so soon, mom. Mom also used to tell me that the best horses would go to heaven with some of there tails and mains missing, showing that the people who had them in the past couldn't bear to not keep something of there beloved friend. So I will keep your tradition going of always helping people that look like they need saving. I hope you're up there rescuing more horses and saving people. Rest easy mom"
