"Come on Hatun just one more push!" Said the midwife to Hürrem Hatun.
It was Oktober 1521, and in that month 2 of Suleiman's children were born: Şehzade Mehmet and Esma Hatice Sultan. At that moment only Mehmet was born. And Hürrem was very happy to have a son.
A few minutes later the other baby was born. From the moment Hürrem learnt that it was a girl she didn't care about her.
After the babies were cleaned Suleiman and the royal family came for the blessings, and the name giving. Suleiman named his son Mehmet, but he couldn't decide on his daughters name. He asked his mother for help.
She wanted to name her Hatice, but Hatice Sultan didn't want her niece to be named after her. She wanted to name Esma.
"Then let's name her Esma Hatice." Said Suleiman, and said the blessings on her.
~a month later~
Hürrem didn't care about her daughter at all, and the Valide Sultan wanted to punish her. She decided to take the baby and send her to Buda.
One night she sent one of her servants to Hürrem's chambers to take her granddaughter. And the same night she was sent to Buda.
They made everyone believe that Esma Hatice has died.
