Just the wind

"Come on, Ash!" Max cried as she began pulling the poor girls hands.

"It's now or never, you should know that."

"Do we really have to." Moaned Ashley. She was being pulled over to an old house that was said to be abandoned.

It was the start of the summer break and they had just gotten out of school. While everyone else ran home in a rush, Max was dragging Ashley along with her to some place where she claimed was haunted.

As much as Max wanted a ghost encounter, Ashley just didn't believe in that kind of stuff. Not since year 5.

"Please Ash! You know how long I've been wanting to do this for!"

The girl paused for a moment. She looked hesitant before letting out a long sigh. "Ok fine. I'll go. But you have to promise you won't pull any jokes or pranks like last time."

Max shrieked in happiness and gave Ashley a tight hug.

"Ok let's go then! Come on slow coach! Last one there is a rotten egg!"

Ashley didn't want to admit it but as childish as Max seemed, she loved her with all her heart. She didn't want to lose her after what her previous 'friends' had done to her.

They reached the old house and stopped for a moment. Something didn't seem right about that place. Something was off. Not just because it was abandoned but something about the atmosphere was different.

"You promise me this is safe? " Ashley questioned and glared at her blonde friend.

"Positive." Max said in reply.

With one last sigh, Ashley followed max to the door of the house and knocked lightly on the old wood.

As she was about to knock again, the door slowly creaked open and revealed the darkness of the hallway. Something was definitely wrong. As they walked into the house, they both turned on their flashlights and began exploring the untouched room.

The floor boards were unbearably creaky and the wallpaper was giving away.

"See Ash, its not that bad here. "

Just as those words were said, a strange noise was heard by Ashley, almost like a whisper. It was so inaudible that she couldn't make out what it was. A shiver ran down her spine.

"Hey did you hear that too? " Ashley asked, hoping that the answer was yes.

"Did I hear what? " was all that the girl replied with.

"Don't play with me Max. What was that noise? " she said a little more worried now.

"I'm telling you I heard nothing. "

This made Ashley uneasy and weak in the knees. The thought of having someone following you through an old, creepy house wasn't the best feeling. Her breath quickened and grew louder.

"Hey, I'm sure it was just the wind ok?" Max said reasuringly.

"Yeah you're right, must just been the wind. "
