Noah  Speilsberg

There was something about tonight that made me feel something right will happen.

My dorm's window was open letting the cool breeze enter my room. The breeze was soothing, relaxing my tried muscles, but unfortunately it wasn't relaxing enough to erase my mental fatigue. The aura of that place itself  was enough to suck all my energy away from me. That place made me feel void, deprived of all emotions, completely disconnected from myself, my own reality. I was doing this willingly yet, I felt so miserable, almost like I was trapped, and forced to be like this.

Why?

Maybe it was because I never wanted to be here in the first place, or maybe because if i dare to say otherwise, my life would become worse that death which I can't bear. As i starred out of my window I sensed a strong urge to run from here, breakout of this place and run far away until no one can find me. My thoughts were taking over my senses so I decided to shut the window. But still I felt the same, my instincts still screamed to run away. After much thought I decided to let my intuition guide me. I had a plan in my mind.

There are 7 exits to this building out of them only 6 are known. 2 are in the front, 2 in the back, 2 on the left side of the building and 2 known exits on the right. The unknown exit about which only I and one more person was aware was on the right side hidden between the boxes filed with ammo and stacks of hay bail . It was an underground passage who's exit was apparently, outside the boundaries of this building. If  I leave now then I might even make it out of here alive. It was rather reckless of me to try this as the guard of the boundaries was strong, also I've never tried to use that exit therefore I wasn't 100% sure if the information was right or not and lastly if I got caught I will be slaughtered rather painfully. But I was eager to undertake this risky escape if it meant freedom, and death is better than living like this anyway.

With this thought I packed my bag, hurriedly, grabbing all the important stuff which was necessary for at least a month's survival without any proper job. The only thing good about this complement was that I got a good amount of money. I had been saving money since I was given my first 'salary'. Right now after 10 years I have about 2000 dollars in my pocket. I would  have had more if i haven't  given it to someone else. I guess it's not that bad. After I got all that I needed I headed down the corridors towards the exit. My body rushed with adrenaline . The farther I went the closer I got to the exit. My insides where filled with joy. I was finally going away from here.

My happiness was brought abrupt halt when one of  the security guard stopped me in the midway. "where are you going at midnight?" he question "To Cameroon's dormitory." I replied sternly.  "Why ?"  he inquired, this guy was a nosy one. He didn't trust at all, not like I am trustable. "it's none of your concern." I answered harshly. As I proceeded to leave he raised his hand in front of me stopping me from going further.

"I need to know why are you out here in the middle of the night."  he demanded stubbornly. Annoyed by his behavior I said " I have some work assigned which I have to do with my friend, Cameroon. I completely forgot about it until now. I called him telling him I am coming to his dorm, and now when I'm trying to go there you are blocking my way." I explained. He seemed to be convinced by my explanation and let me go further. I fixed my lenses and went ahead.

In no time I stood there in front of the place where the escape route  resided. I had locked the room from inside where the tunnel's entry was. My freedom or my death, this route was having my destiny was presided by it. I swallowed a lump in my throat. I was agitated. I took a sharp breath in and opened the trapdoor to the tunnel. I turned around and looked to see if someone was monitoring me. Everything was clear. There were no CCTV's here because the 'leader' was very confident in his security system. I jumped inside the tunnel and closed the trapdoor over my head.

Darkness engulfed my vision. I tuned on the torch and walked deeper in the tunnel. I was a dark long tunnel. I feel it was going deeper in the ground. There was silence. Except my own footsteps, nothing was to be heard. I observed the tunnel was well dug with enough space to walk properly while standing straight. Everything was fine until I heard someone fall. My sense got alerted as I paniced and looked around. I thought I saw no one until some girl's faint silhouette came into my vision. I squinted at it trying to recognise who it was. I failed to do so, and so I went towards the place where the shadow was to greet the newcomer.

As I went there I saw someone I totally didn't expect to see.

"you!" I stated sounding absolutely disgusted, not like I intended to, but she hated me so I had to act like I didn't like her as well. "What are you doing here?" she said, most definitely unpleased to see me. It's not like we always hated each other but some disputes had led to the occurrence of this feeling which wasn't mutual but had to be portrayed like that.  "I should ask the same to you." I answered back shortly. "Running away from here of course." she replied back, " I am also not here to clean the tunnel."  I retorted back. After about a minute of such bickering we both came to the conclusion that now we both are in this together.

I continued my journey, but now in a pair rather than solitude. The tunnel seemed to be never ending. It felt like hours until we reached the other end. Being older in this pair I decided to check if the coast was clear. I opened the trap door and lifted myself upwards. The way above this seemed to be clear. I looked around and spotted the majestic building where I was about half and hour ago. A smiled crawled on my face to know I'm free now.

My thoughts were interrupted by a whisper shout, "Is the coast clear?" she asked. I looked down and nodded while proceeding to lift myself towards the road. I gave her a hand and hoisted her out of the tunnel as well. We were finally out. My lips curled in a smile. She seemed to be overjoyed and hugged me. Taken by surprise, I wrapped a hand around her shoulder, returning the gestured. "Thank you for accompanying me." she said. I just smiled as we went in the opposite direction from the building.

There was a feeling my gut telling me something is wrong. I suddenly stopped as I heard a voice. I looked around agitated. She looked back perplexed.  "what's wrong noir?" "there's someone around here, Alesha."  I pulled out my gun, and she mimicked me. Rustling of leaves was heard behind me as someone ran. I turned around abruptly. "where are you two going that to without telling me?." I knew this voice, this voice which came from behind my back was the voice I hated the most. I looked straight into Alesha's eyes. She was fixed to the ground, petrified, Staring at the person behind me in deep shock and fear.

I turned around slowly, making an eye contact with the person who could be my death, the 'leader' of my 'job'. I was now too petrified, too scared to move, speak or run. Something about his looks made you freeze on you spot. Somehow I gained the courage to move from my spot. I turned around and started to run dragging the frozen girl with me. But of course it wasn't an easy run. He fired his guns in our direction narrowly missing. And then it hit me, I had a gun as well. I stopped turned around raising my gun in his direction. I was about to press the trigger but I felt a sharp pain in my left hand which was followed by a bang. I should have known better, he has an army of trained men and women like me.

My gun fell to my side. I was completely defenceless. Now my  last option was sprinting away but that was impossible as I was tangled in one of the vines which lied beneath my feet

I raised my hands in surrender. He approached me telling me about I made a mistake and how he will punish me in the most brutal way. Even though I showed no signs of fear I was genuinely terrified. Then out of no where someone shot him at this left leg which ended up a bit upper and hit him in his ribcage instead. It was Alesha. I actually forgot  she was there. He groan and fell in pain. The person who probably shot my hand came running and checked on his master. Astonishingly no one was there except that guy. I took my opportunity and ran for my life while dragging her with me. After a while, we had escaped and now were out of danger.

I am still in disbelief that we made it out of there. But that doesn't mean we are out of trouble yet. It is bound to come to us sooner or later. "Guess we are on our own now?" Alesha asked. "I think so." "See you never blondie." she greeted as she went away in the opposite direction. "I wish the same." I told her as I went my way.

This is the start of my new life, and hopefully my better life.
