After a few minutes, some younger middle school kids run over.
There's a girl and two boys. The boys jump around and pretend to push the girl into the pond. She makes an angry face and runs away, laughing. The boys follow the girl more along the trail.
"Want to go to the second place I have planed?" Lorne asks once the kids have all run away.
"A second place?" I ask. He nods and walks me back to the Mustang. We sit inside, and he drives the car away.
I sing along to 'Empire State of Mind' by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, "In New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made of, there's nothing you can't do,".
We pull up to the ice cream shop Molly Moon's Homemade Ice Cream.
We walk inside, and there's only one person. An old women who reads a book. An empty foam bowl sitting on the table in front of her. Lorne and I walk up to the front counter and take a look at the chalk board on the wall.
"I'm sorry they don't have peanut butter moose tracks, but they have other awesome flavors." Lorne says. I nod and grin.
We both order Scout Mint ice cream in waffle cones, and eat them outside while chatting.
Once we've finished, we walk back to Lorne's car and climb inside.
"Wait." He says. I pause, looking at him.
"What is it?" I ask. He leans forward, taking a napkin out of his pocket. Than, he dabs my mouth with the napkin.
"There." He says, smiling. He leans in and pecks me on the mouth, than starts the engine.
Jax's POV:
I get into Jett's car. He was as Elizabeth's house for the night, so he would never know that I took his car.
I start the engine and pull out of my driveway.
I'll just go to the beach. Then I can get some peace and quiet and I can focus on thinking and listen to music without being interrupted.
I flip stations until I find a song that I like.
'Grapevine Valentine' by Kingsfoil pumps through the speakers as I pull into the parking lot at a secret beach place. I shut off the car and jump out, slipping my earbuds into my ears. I find 'Grapevine Valentine' and play it.
I sit in the sand kind of out of the way and hidden just in case anyone is here.
As the second verse starts, I see Camille walk onto the beach. Her eyes are wide with amazement. I almost call out to her, but stop myself when I see Lorne stride into my view. My heart sinks as I watch her laugh as the words of 'Grapevine Valentine', "Come on give me something that I can believe in," play in my ears.
"But I'm a grapevine valentine, I'm the catch in your throat when you wanna cry, and all I really wanna do is catch your smile, smile, smile yeah smile..."
I watch Lorne twirl Camille, and then they kiss in the dying light. Than I stand and walk back to Jett's car.
I feel tears bubble up as I turn the key. The car roars to life and I go back on the road. I need a break. I need something. I need Camille. Tears fall down my cheeks, and I quickly wipe them away as I stomp down on the gas petal. The car lurches forward and increases speed.
I turn onto the highway and continue to speed down the road.
Suddenly, a car turns onto the highway, and I try to swerve away. I scream like I've never screamed before as the front of my car goes through the drivers side of the other car. The airbags inflate and cushion my jerk forward as the window shield shatters and rains glass onto my head. Black blots by vision, my head feels light and there's an eerie ringing in my ears. Then everything goes black, and I don't feel anything.
Camille's POV:
"I wonder why Jett's car was here?" I say. Lorne wraps his arms around me from behind and we slowly rock back and forth.
"I don't know." Lorne responds. "He probably is just somewhere around here with Elizabeth. Or that just isn't his car."
"Probably." I nod in agreement and lean my head back on Lorne's chest. We stand in the same position on the thin wooden pier, as we watch the sun slowly sinks below the water.
"Today was amazing." I whisper. He nods and kisses the side of my neck.
"It was. And still is." He whispers in my ear. We make our way over to the end of the -more-like-a-deck-than-a-pier and sit down. We swing our legs above the water, clasping our hands together.
When the sun was finally fully down, the sky fills with stars that twinkle.
"There's the big dipper." Lorne says, throwing up his arm to point.
"There's the little dipper." I point, leaning into him. We bring our arms down and Lorne strokes my cheek with his thumb, than leans in. Our lips lock as a wave crashes against the shore.
A few seconds later, Lorne's phone rings. He lets it ring twice, than pulls away to answer it.
"Hello?" He says into his phone. "... um... yeah......" Lorne's face goes pale.
"Lorne? Is everything okay?" I ask. He continues to listen into his phone.
"Okay. Bye Mom." Than he stands while hanging up. "We have to go Camille." He reaches out his hand and I take it. I stand next to him, and we walk to his car.
"Is something wrong?" I ask as we get into the Mustang.
"Yeah. Um. It's my dad. He was in a car crash, and he's in the hospital." Lorne looks straight ahead. I can see that he is trying hold back tears, while he avoids eye contact, and bites his lip.
"Lorne." I say, leaning over to hug him tightly. Sadness rises in myself as I see him break and tears fall down his cheeks.
Than his phone rings again.
He hands it to me, not wanting to answer it.
"Hello?" I ask onto it.
"Is this Lorne and Camille?" A women says from the other end.
"Yes."
"Well, we would like to inform you that Jax was in a car crash and he is in the hospital."
I gulp. "Uh, okay."
"Have a good night miss."
"Thanks, you too." I say. Than I hang up. "Jax is also in the hospital. They must have been in the same car crash." Lorne's face falls into his hands, and I feel sobs gurgle inside of me.
