Chapter 4 - Kitten in a library

Start from the beginning

One of them being the fact that she said 'with the reddest of eyes' and that she has seen them. Another reason is if she was truly kept up an entire night by 'the kitten' then that must mean she was watching me sleep the entire time. And lastly... she said something about calling out to 'its mother'... Could I have been talking in my sleep? I shudder at the idea. She could know so many things without me wanting to tell her, and I find it terrifying. Just how much does she know?

"Well, I'm sorry to change the subject but I think it's time for you to go charge M3GAN. You don't have to charge fully just make sure it's enough to get you through the day." Gemma regarded the situation nonchalantly and only cared about her invention's maintenance. She couldn't care less about the well-being of some small insignificant animal. Not that I would either, but this affair has raised too many questions and I'm debating whether I want the answers to those questions...

Nevertheless, we move on.

M3GAN excuses herself from the table and trots towards the stairs that lead up to the other floor with slow and calculated steps. I make sure to finish eating as fast as possible and then stand up from the table too. I take hasty steps and ascend the stairs. I whirl towards the door that separates Cady's room and the corridor. Even though I made sure to come here as quickly as I could, now, I find myself unable to even put my hand around the handle. I hesitate and stand there. Seconds pass before a voice comes from the other side.

"𝙲𝚘𝚖𝚎 𝚒𝚗." Her steady voice registers through the door becoming me in and I can only follow.

I put pressure on the handle and push open the door. And she's there, sitting in her charging station. Looking as radiant as she can with those long fake lashes and that tilted head of hers put to the side as if curious. She waits for me to speak meanwhile I take a heavy silent breath.

"Is it fun for you?" I lean on the doorframe and observe her from afar with a look of amusement and confidence which mask my truer feelings.

"𝚆𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚒𝚜?" She asks innocently as if she didn't know why I followed her the moment she left the table. Her voice pitches higher indicating her delight in all of this. The ends of her lips quirk up practically radiating her smugness as she sees me finally draw closer.

"I mean is it fun for you to make a mockery of me?" My silent rage draws me closer to her until a reaching point where I'm finally in front of her. Uncertain where to put my hands at this point in time I decided to trap her by putting the two of them on the window behind her. My face leaned forward overshadowing hers. And yet after everything her arrogance grows.

"What do you know?" I pressed further but her smile seemed to stretch even more. The opposite reaction of what I was looking for.

"𝙸 𝚍𝚘𝚗'𝚝 𝚔𝚗𝚘𝚠 𝚠𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚢𝚘𝚞'𝚛𝚎 𝚝𝚊𝚕𝚔𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚊𝚋𝚘𝚞𝚝. 𝙸 𝚓𝚞𝚜𝚝 𝚜𝚊𝚠 𝚊 𝚔𝚒𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚗 𝚝𝚑𝚊𝚝'𝚜 𝚊𝚕𝚕."

"Oh, please as if anyone would believe that." I bitterly spat.
