At the count of the set alarm, the clock sang its wake-up song; Max grumbled and yawned as he got up. The young half Lab turned to his alarm clock, 6:13 it said.
"Still early" he muttered, groggily extending his hand and cutting off the annoying alarm that had disturbed his sleep and kicked him out of a wonderful dream. 'Just a few more minutes' Max turned and went back under his blanket; just a few more minutes of sleep before school, it wasn't like he was in a rush. He closed his eyes and not being in any mood to get up out of bed he dozed off. And, went to dream land once again.
(A "few" minutes later)
'Where is he' Jean Luc wondered as he quietly walked up the stairs. His wife Bluey had barely slept during the night and was for the first time in a few hours had fallen asleep. Yes there was absolutely no reason to wake Bluey up, though Jean had forgotten that the second stair to the top was the one that creaked. CREAK!!! The stair sang and Jean (in his head) combined every foul French word imaginable to curse that blasted stair. For a second he stood there afraid to lift his foot and cause the stair to creak again; then, with the utmost care he lifted and used the handrail to hop over. And, walked towards the door.
"Max" he called as he knocked lightly on the bedroom door. No answer "Max, school time; maintenant, il est temps de se lever!" Still no answer 'is he asleep' Jean wondered 'I swear I set an alarm; did I? Yes I did.' He opened the door; the room was still extremely dim but Jean could still map out the landscape. The blinds where fully opened allowing moonlight to seep through the windows and illuminate the room in a silver white glow. A comic book was sitting on the window stool, half open with pages fanning out, not far from that there was a small pile of cars 'I thought I told him to clean this' Jean shook his head. On the table just beside a framed picture of Max, Jean, and Bluey during their camping trip. The old alarm clock read 7:00. Beside the table, wrapped up in his blanket like a burrito Max was fast asleep.
Jean sighed
"Max, wake up" he said gently shaking the pup who grumbled in response "Max school time!" Max turned away and continued to sleep.
"Max" Jean said again, Max again just grumbled and turned. "You need to get dressed for school." This happened a few more times and Jean's patience (Bluey said Jean had the patience of a Saint, Max however sometimes put that patience to the test) was being firmly withered away.
"Max Ines Heeler, Tête de noeud, get up" Jean pulled his son off the bed and placed him on the floor
"SACREBLUE!" Max screamed, jumping up and tripping over his blanket. The teenage pup rubbed his head and looked up at his father who didn't look to happy with him. 'What time is it' he wondered looking over to the clock 7:19
"Shit" Max muttered under his breath and got up. And, slightly groggy from being woken, went to grab his clothes from his closet
"Hurry up" his father said before leaving and closing the door. 'Well so much for letting her sleep' Jean walked back down the stairs this time not forgetting to jump over the second one to the top.
