I have a secret. If anyone was to find out everything would crumble to ash.

I woke with a start, it was a bright sunny day and the warm morning sun was shining down on my face. A knock on the door burst my little bubble of bliss.
"come in," I grumbled sleepily.
"Morning Ana." May my brunette friend opened my door and set the breakfast tray on my bedside table.
"Come on Ana get up the dressmakers coming in an hour and no offence but you don't look as cute as usual. "
"May stop flirting, someone could hear you." I laughed.
"Calm down it's only 8."
"Yeah, and I need  to get dressed, so out."
"You sure I can't stay." She winked back. At that point I jumped out of bed and hit her over the head with my pillow, she, however, grabbed it and hit me back, fuming I grabbed the other pillow and we had a full-blown pillow fight, I hit her over the head and she retorted by striking  my arm, hard, I hit her harder on the cheek and she slapped my side.
We collapsed on the bed, hair a mess and out of breath.
"Huh, I don't remember you having such good aim." she teased.
"I've been practising, look!" we sat up and I focussed on my  anger and pointed my palm at the door, a spurt of fire hit the door setting it alight, focusing on my loneliness, a  gush of water landed on the door and fizzled the fire out.
"Nice, you are getting better at controlling your powers, shame you can't control me!" she ran out of the room laughing.

I finished eating my toast and headed  down the stairs to the dining room the one with the enormously long table,  with the portraits of my ancestors looming over us, the one with the  floor-to-ceiling windows leading out to the beautiful gardens.
"Morning Mother. "
"Darling, how are you this morning, excited to meet your future husband." My oblivious mother asked me.
"No Mother I can't say I am."
"Oh well, that's a shame dear because the dressmaker is already here, May please take Anabelle through? " She addressed my friend.
"Of course mam." she leads me out and across the hall.

"May I don't want to get married?"
"I know Ana but there's not much we can do, should I stay for the fitting? "
I sighed and  nodded, and we reached the dressmaker's room, it was a medium-sized room with a few manikins and lots of dresses.
"Hello miss, a big day I hear are you excited." The dressmaker greeted.
"No I'm not excited, why would I want to marry a man I just met that's wrong in so many different ways, ow watch where you're putting that pin." she had slipped and the safety pin had  poked me.
" Are you okay Anabelle?" May sounded concerned.
I put my thumb up to signal that I was just fine.

"Miss what colour would you like it to be I'm thinking either silver or green but I can do a different colour if you'd prefer."
"No greens fine."

One excruciating hour later the measuring had finished, the details were finalised and the dress was half done.
"You can go now miss I can finish the rest without you unless you'd like to stay."She asked hopefully .
"No thanks,  this is boring, May come to help me out of this dress."
She replied with a nod and gently helped me out of the dress. Once I was rid of it   I rushed out, May apologising behind me.
"Ana that was rude, you should have at least thanked her. "
"I'll thank her when I see the finished result," I argued defiantly.

"I'm bored when will it be ready?"
"How am I meant to know ." May replied slightly  annoyed .
A knock at the door answered both our questions.
"Miss your dress,"it was the dressmaker,"I think it's okay but what do you think, do you like it!"

I was rendered speechless.

It was a stunning emerald green, the sleeves long and Lacey, it was low cut with high shoulders and a long flowy skirt that waved around my legs brushing against the skin
"Woah  its almost to beautiful to wear."
"Try it Ana it's gonna look fabulous on you."May encouraged, so I did. she was right it was gorgeous absolutely stunning.
"You'll be sweeping the men of their feet!" The dressmaker looked pleased, I was not.
"But I don't want them to be."
"Ana let's go show your mother." May said, gently touching arm.

Author's note :

This is the dress if you don't like it then think of something else - she looks a little like this as well

I walked down t he winding stairs case ,dress flowing beside me.
Mother was waiting at the bottom of the stairs for me.

"Darling you look as beautiful as a song bird. I can't believe it, my little angel all grown up," There were tears in her eyes and a sad but happy expression on her face.
"Come on the prince's  are waiting."

"They don't deserve you." I heard a whisper in my ear, I turned around to see May I felt the colour rush to my cheeks and I looked down embarrassed.
