There was a boy who lived deep in the forest, who had no parents to look after him. His parent died right when he start to gain the ability to remember. As any child would love their parent, he did as well. However, once the bud of affection and love grew in him towards his parent, they drop down – dead.
This boy was given the name Tobias. When the Ministry found out about him, they send people to look after the poor boy. However, they too somehow died the same way his parent did; drop down and no sign of life inside their body. It took the Ministry about three years to figure out the curse he had; death upon those who loved.
Starting from then, the Ministry ordered men to hide their identity when visiting Tobias so that none of them had their life ripped away. He could love them but as he doesn't know their true identity, he couldn't cause more death upon them. If possible, the Minister wants someone to be his friend.
The boy then grew up alone, most of the time. The masked men from the Ministry came once in a while, giving regards to the boy from the Ministry. He couldn't have a pet to accompany him in the deep forest. Until one day, the masked men bring a girl about his age to see him. His heart wildered when he sees her without mask to cover her identity from him.
"Is this an experiment...?" he thoughts to himself.
"Tobias, this is Venus. She is also a gifted person like you. Although you have different gifts, we, the Ministry proxy thought that she might be able to outlive your gift." Tobias bit the wall of his mouth. Anxiousness takes over him.
Before he could respond, Venus spat rude words to the proxies sent by the Ministry. "You're playing with my life! How do you know that I wouldn't die? Send me back home this instant!" she stomped her feet, not even sparing a glance towards Tobias.
The same man who spoke before held his hand up to Venus' face. "We are afraid that we cannot do that, young lady. You agreed to take the job offer on your own. The contract you signed said that you have to be here for at least three years; that is if you survive that long to return to your parents."
"You don't have to stay," Tobias chimed in. The men and Venus turns to him. But the girl shows more anger than the peace the proxies offered.
"HUH?"
Tobias slightly flinched. "I'm fine being here on my own. You can take her back to where she wanted to go." He speaks softly. His voice sounds like the calming sound of wind chimes clinking and clanking. He had a pair of soft eyes, but he is hesitating to look at both the proxies and the girl.
"We can't do that, young man. This is no regular contract. In the final requirement of the contract, this woman cannot back down from the contract within the fixed period or else, her family has to pay the compensation, which they can't afford to." The larger man of the proxies spoke. Venus suddenly froze, and panicked.
"Fine, fine...!" she grumbled. "I will do it." She uttered each word strongly. She walks pass through Tobias and went into the house without his permission. He looked at the proxies with the look of helplessness.
"What do I do with her around? What if she die, what if things didn't go as planned by him?" he asked, displaying fear on his features.
"Please rest assures. We will make sure that didn't happen." The first proxy spoke. "She...also seems like she don't like you." Tobias scratches his scalp lightly. "Well, we will visit once in a while to check if things are going well between the two of you. The Minister sends his regards to you."
Tobias still couldn't think of anything, as if his lips locked. "Please send my regards back at him."
"Well then, we will take our leave. Have a nice day, Tobias boy." The proxies left. He then notices a bag left in front of him. He pries into the bag and understands that it's Venus' belongings.
