POV:

You are up in the Illyrian mountains with Azriel who is teaching you flight techniques

Y/N POV

'Fucking hell!' I yell as Azriel pulls out a thorn from my arm. This was the 3rd time Azriel had tried(and failed) to teach me to fly. I was constantly falling and my whole body was starting to hurt. Azriel was trying get frustrated by my lack of improvement, but I could tell he was getting tired of watching me plummet.

'Sorry,' he says and yanks the last thorn out. '
You're fine. Now try again.'

I sigh and stand up out of the bush. 'I obviously can't do it Az! We've been at this for hours and I haven't made any progress!'

'Youll get the hang of it eventually. Just try holding your arms in against your body when you take off, That way, they won't drag you down and you'll be build muscle in your wings.'

I nod and concentrate. Stretching my dark, bat like wing out, and starting to beat them. I tuck my arms in like azriel said and beat my wings harder, until I'm just barely hovering  in the air.

'See! There's some progress! Now lean forward and go straight.' Azriel says, gesturing to the edge of small cliff we were on.

I do what he says cautiously. As I near the edge of the cliff, I  silently say a prayer to the Cauldron that I don't plummet to my untimely death. I began to tremble as I half to work harder than ever to keep myself up in the air. I close my eyes as I dip over the edge, and when I reluctantly open them again I am soaring through the cool mountain air.

'Hell yeah!' I exclaim and turn back towards Azriel on the cliff, grinning. But when I do, I can't  see him. I look around, panicking. AZRIEL? AZ?!?"

'Well done' a voice says from behind me and I turn to see Azriel, hovering next to me in the air. 'It only took hours.", he says rolling his eyes.

'Well maybe I would have learned faster if i let Cass train me,' I tell him, smiling sarcastically.

He returns my smile and says, 'Now that you can fly on your own, I want to show you something.'

He turns darts into the mountains ahead. I desperately try to follow him as he leads me to a ledge near the top of a  mountain and lands just on the edge. Flying at night wasn't a problem because for him because Illyrian's had better eyesight than most fae; although I on the other hand may or may not have grazed some trees (and by grazed I mean I have several gashes from violently slamming against branches). When I reach the mountain I try to land but slip and fall, flapping my wings aggressively to try to regain balance.

I groan as Azriel bends down and helps me up.

'I probably should have showed you how to land. Oh well! Next time,' he says laughing. I shoot him a glare and he stops immediately.

'What did you want to show me?' I ask.

'This.' He says, and points to the sky.

His shadows parted to reveal a bright, full moon; illuminating the stars. I gasp at how striking it looks, breathing in the cold winter air.

'This is where I come when I need to get away from everything,' he says. 'If helps to calm be down, so I don't end up killing Cassian for all the dumb shit he does.'

I frown. 'Then why show it to me?' I ask. 'Why reveal your private brooding space?'

He looks at me, chuckling. 'Because I trust you.'

We stare at each other for a long moment until I look away, trying not to let him see I was shivering. The  night air had  seeped thoroughly through my clothes, chilling me to the bone. 'Are you cold?' he asks.

'No,' I say although it's a lie. 'I'm fine.'

'No you're not,' he replies and takes me in his arms, his dark shadows curling around me like a blanket. I looked at him, shocked at this show of affection coming from cold, brooding Azriel; but soon I relax as the warmth begins to creep back into my body.

I look up at Az. The shadows accented his features and out the golden hazel color of his eyes.

I make up my mind. I'm going to tell him now. If I don't I probably won't get this chance again.

'Azriel,' I breath.

'Y/N,' his voice is a little shaky.

'I have something I need to tell you,' I say. 'I love you. I have for a while now. I'm not sure if you feel the same way, And I know that I'm not as pretty or talented as the multiple females who you could have, but-

He cuts me off, crashing his lips against mine. I melt into the kiss and tangle my hands through his dark hair. He pulls me closer, deepening our kiss. We pull away after a few minutes, catching our breath.

'Y/N,' he says again. 'You are the only one for me. You have always been the only one for me. I loved you the day I first saw you  and I have loved you every day since.'

'But, Why didn't you say anything?' I ask.

He cups my face with his rough, scarred hand. 'I didn't think you felt the same.'

I chuckle at how stupid we had been. 'How much time did we waste being afraid?' I say.

'All that matter is how much time we have now. Right here under the moonlight, with you in my arms; that's all that matters.'

I put my fingers under his chin and force him to look up at me.

Tears form in his eyes. 'I love you,' I say and wipe away a stray tear 'I will always love you Azriel.'

'I love you too.' he says, and kisses me.
