A/N: I am CANCELLED for making you all wait so long I'm so sorry😿😿🙏🙏
Saturday, November, 1986.
Jonny looks down at his watch, anxious as we continue to wait for the others, the bus back to school leaving soon. We're only waiting for Thom and Phil as Jon, Colin and Ed are staying at their homes in town. I peer down the long-winding sidewalk, hoping for the group of them to just waltz in from around the corner, but the path remains empty.
"We don't got all day...", the driver buzzes from the wheel.
We continue to stand on the sidewalk, waiting. "They'll be here in a minute, they will.", I respond, not sure of it at all.
"Hey, maybe you should just get on and go. Thom and Phil can stay at my house, it'll be fine.", Jonny eases me, unsuccessfully but I nod, giving him a quick hug and hopping on the bus. The engine purrs and the bus starts moving, I keep my eyes on Jon as he gets smaller in the growing distance. He stares back smiling before jumping up and down, pointing down the sidewalk. I quickly look over to see the group, all four boys; Ed, Thom, Colin and Phil, frantically waving down the bus from the sidewalk.
As I begin to tell the bus driver to pull over, trying my best to not burst out laughing as I see their anxious flapping arms, he stops me, "Yeah, I see 'em. Hard to miss, aren't they?", he chuckles, pulling in to pick them up.
The doors open and Thom and Phil rush on, out of breathe, I could tell they sprinted to catch the bus."We made it, thank god.", Phil mumbles, smiling childishly while Thom stays quiet. We all wave to the others as we drive away, finding empty seats and relaxing in the afternoon's dim light and the bus's cold, windows open breeze.
Holding a scrunched up piece of paper to me, Thom says sheepishly, "Ed asked me to give you this.", I grab it quickly from him. Opening it up, it's the receipt from the video game they bought, on the bottom is reads Call me tomorrow, we'll talk then, with his landline on the back. "So what does it say?", he whispers.
"That's none of your business, is it Amnesic?", I say jokingly but I can tell Thom isn't amused. Quickly changing the subject, I ask about the video game they bought, which Phil picks up right away. He talks about their having to waiting outside in the rain as the video game store had a "Out for lunch, be back soon", sign on it, and how that soon ended up being an hour. Phil continued on recounting about their adventure all the way back to school, and though I wanted to stay listening to him, all I could think about was how quiet Thom was being.
