What rhymes with thief? Maybe
Disbelief, brief, grief
That's the word, griefThe emotion which breaks your soul in two
No, not the emotion
The nag, the reminder, the sudden moment you remember
All of what you've lostThe thief that's stolen your
Sunshine, laughter, the yellow of your lifeWhy can't grief be brief?
Why won't it give back what it's taken?
Why can't I forgive it?Because I'm in disbelief
Of the power I didn't know grief had
Of how quick grief can appear
Of how I've lost the person who helped me defeat this emotion once beforeNow, some people may say
That grief is the love
We weren't able to give
Grief is the "friend" who sits in our sorrowBut I think grief is a fiend
One who reminds us of what it took, what it has, and what it won't give backThe nag that doesn't leave us be
The nag we tolerate
The nag we won't get tired of
Because of its memory of the thing it took from usThat is what makes grief
A thief
