Sometimes when you're bored, you start a conversation with someone else, they might reply or they might not.
In my case, I replied to a conversation started by a friend of mine. He said 'yo' and I replied with 'hi there.'
Guess what, he left it at that and didn't continue.
Note to all:
If you're going to initiate a conversation, at least pursue and continue.
