The ten of us are all lined up on a giant vertically inclined track. Traps, fake missles, robots, and teachers dressed as villains are dotted randomly around. A finish line at the end, presumably. We turn to the stage as Present Mic taps the microphone. "Hello? Hello? This thing on? Hello again, everyone, and congratulations on finishing the written exam. Now, this here is your last obstacle to getting accepted into the best superhero university in Japan. It's an obstacle course. But, it is also a race. Whether you pass or fail is determined by your performance. Be warned, though. The last four to win this race are automatically not accepteeed~." My heart skips a beat in my chest and my stomach knots. Oh, shit. "Oh, shit indeed prospecting students! Be on your gaurd and good luck! You'lll need it~!"
Everyone is dead silent. Some adjust their clothes, but everyone is checking out the competition more closely now. I only keep my wings out for now. No need to give the others the advantage of knowing more about my quirk than necessary. I do prepare my throat for fire breathing. That doesn't have any outside indicators. Finished with prepping my arsenal, I slide my eyes over my fellow examinees.
Going down the line, we have the red and white-haired kid with angry eyes. The tall, built guy he made sad. Two pretty, but otherwise, ordinary looking girls. A guy with very pronounced teeth and white hair. Me, an alien looking guy, a fish guy, a girl with antenna, and, last in line, a gender undefined cat person.
I start to focus my breathing and stretch my body. Before long, though, the countdown begins. I feel my bladder threaten to release as the adrenaline shoots through my body. My bare feet dig into the soft ground. I take a deep breath and release it as I get into position. My claws and fangs try to bare themselves, but I fight the reflex. Giving into it is a slippery slope into losing control and fully transforming.
I look straight ahead. I let my eyes slit to try and spot the first trap. Since I don't have to be first to pass this test; I should probably try to stay behind one person. This is U.A though, I might not have a choice in the matter anyway. Suddenly, the whistle blows, mayhem erupts. Quirks are firing off in every direction. I quickly switch out my wings and instead switch my body to all wheel drive. My joints pop. Bones grow and shrink. Hands, feet, arms, and legs are switched for that of my dragon form.
Just as I manage to do so, a huge gust of wind knocks everyone over. The kid who got dismissed by red white and angry just shot ahead of everyone and blasted out a wave of air pressure behind him. Red white and angry recovers fast, though, and is hot on his heals. Leaving a trail of freezing, slippery ice behind him. Thankfully, I just put away my wings incase someone made a move to stop me from flying. That wind would have whipped me around like a house on its way to Oz. Instead, I am able to recover and race my way through the mine field that is this trail.
I bob, weave, and blast my way through rolling logs, rolling rocks, falling debris, the angry kids' ice trail, and missles that explode pink powder. They have just enough bang to knock someone over. The next section of the course is ahead. I see a giant gap in the trail and a long fall. I switch out my fire for my wings and jump over the gap. A broken ice bridge and wind whipped surroundings are the only signs I see of the boys ahead of me. The next section is a giant cliff wall that makes me glad I can fly. Although the missles, falling rocks, and trees still don't make it easy.
I dodge a missle, purposefully bounce off of a falling boulder to dodge another Boulder, but then I get blindsided by a falling tree. It takes me all the way back down with it in a giant crash. The air gets knocked out of my lungs, and I cry out as my body gets badly thrashed by the tree. I think I cracked a rib. Passing out momentarily, I come to when I hear someone starting to climb the wall. It's the boy with the teeth and white hair. He sticks his hands in the wall and just starts zooming up. Adrenaline doubling down, I start running painfully up the wall. I use my wings to help pull and jump my way up the cliff face. This time being more precautions.
Finally making it up, I start flying for my life to catch back up to shiny teeth chip skylark. He is slipping and sliding his way through the ground like it's mud. He sees me and starts slip-sliding away faster. That's when I see the finish line over the tree line. I start pumping my wings harder, but my bruised and semi crushed body is pulsing with pain.
As we race to the line, I see figures already standing there. We are neck and neck at this point. I don't look behind to see if anyone is behind us. No time, just fly. Getting closer, I see three people had already passed the finish line. Angry boy, sad windy boy, and one of the ordinary looking pretty girls. She has longer wavy hair parted in a way that her hair kind of looks like curtains. I hadn't even seen her pass me. The good news is that so long as no one passes us, this guy and I should be in the clear.
He manages to beat me by a few feet, but I manage to collapse my way over the finish line. With a couple of raspy breaths, my vision fades, and I take a quick nap.
