Penelope the Babysitter

Chapter 2

She patted Taka's head tenderly.

Hayato snatched him from her arms and walked out without a word with a still wailing Taka.

"Hey!" - Penelope

"Kamitani!" - Ryuichi

"Ehh~? Is Kamitani-Kun jealous of his brother?" - ???

The two looked out the window and saw a pink-head.

The man smiled at them.

"Usaida-San!" - Ryuichi

"Good evening!" - Usaida

He jumped in through the window.
 
"You must be the new girl the Chairwoman mentioned. You're quite the beauty, aren't you?" - Usaida

She blushed a light pink as he moved closer to her and bent down to her level.

"I-I'm Penelope! Nice to meet you!" - Penelope

He smiled once again before stepping back.

"Then I'll let you be a part of the club. But there's a small price to pay." - Usaida

"A price?" - Penelope

"Ehh? Ryu-Chan you didn't tell her?" - Usaida

"Eh?" - Ryuichi

"The price is.... you have to give me a peck on the cheek every morning." - Usaida

Penelope blushed hard.

"Usaida-San! Stop scaring her! There is no price!" - Ryuichi

"Hehe! I was just kidding, of course!" - Usaida

Penelope exhaled, relieved.

"Usaida-San, school hours are over so we have to leave now." - Ryuichi

"Alright, I have to leave too. See you all tomorrow. You too, Kotaro." - Usaida

Kotaro nodded at him.

Ryuichi and Penelope left with Kotaro while Usaida stayed back to lock the daycare.

They reached the mansion but Penelope stopped upon noticing some people.

"Ryuichi-Kun, wait a minute please!" - Penelope

"Is something the matter?" - Ryuichi

What are they doing here?!

The CEO and his two sons were at the gate, arguing with Saikawa.

"Do you know them?" - Ryuichi

"They are...... my...... family? Sort of?" - Penelope

"Then we should greet them!" - Ryuichi

"No! We are not on good terms..... They are not my real family... They adopted me when the real daughter of the CEO went missing......" - Penelope

"Oh..... I'm sorry.... I just wanted to say hello to your family....." - Ryuichi

"Maybe we should..... I can't keep avoiding them like this, can I?" - Penelope

She took a deep breath in and walked up to the small crowd.

"Is something the matter, Saikawa-san?" - Penelope

"No, Penelope-Hime." - Saikawa

"Penelope?! There you are! This guy here keeps saying that you'll be staying here! What load of nonsense!" - Reynold

"That's true." - Penelope

"Penelope Eckhart!" - CEO

"Just let me go, for heaven's sake!" - Penelope

A stunned silence lasted for a few seconds before Penelope gathered herself and spoke in a serious voice.

"Sir. I am grateful to you for having taken me in. But, its over now. I cannot do this anymore. I shouldn't say this..... but I hated living there. That place... belongs to Yvonne. Anyone else who wishes to claim that position will experience nothing but suffering and pain. I..... I hope you find Yvonne. I hope that she will..... get back what was rightfully hers. And I'm sorry for hogging that place for six long years....." - Penelope

She nodded to herself before turning away from the Eckharts.

"If everything is over now.... and you're satisfied with what I said.....please..... leave." - Penelope

Reynold was about to retort but the remorseful sigh that escaped his father's lips was enough to quiet him.

"Penelope..... I am so sorry..... If there is anything, anything, that I can do to make amends..... Please tell me....." - CEO

"Sir, I am quite exhausted today, please send a letter in advance next time. We'll await your arrival. But not today, or this week. Or this month. I. Need. Time. Thank you." - Penelope 

Ryuichi stood dumbfounded at the exchange between the supposed family.

'Do all rich people act like this?'

He snapped back to reality when Penelope turned on her heel to walk back to the mansion.

"A-Ah! Wait for me!" - Ryuichi

He bowed to the Eckharts before following Penelope into the mansion.

The Eckharts tried to extend olive branches in many ways possible, to try and bribe the Chairwoman to let them meet Penelope.

But the Chairwoman was not the kind of woman who was swayed by money and sponsership deals.

She remained adamant until the CEO was holding his head in his hands, knowing that he had lost a daughter. Again.

"It was my fault."
