Chapter two

In the distance, I can see a rusted street sign. It reads: "Hitchhikers may be escaped inmates" Surprisingly, the sign makes me chuckle. Not quite sure why. I guess just because I'd never worry about that in this new world. But after that brief thought- a more serious though comes to mind. There's a prison near by. Fences, doors, walls. Most likely a good food supply. The thought makes me want to run to get there, but Sean has just slipped asleep and the last thing I'd like to do is wake him up. He needs the sleep, and I'm happy he's out. I imagine it is a little more than a mile walk, and the sun is about an hour from going down. I'll get there, but when I do, what will I really find? Who will I find? Now my head is racing, trying to decide whether or not going there will be a good idea or not. I finally convince myself it's worth a shot. And my mind is made up. By tonight, I may be sleeping in a bunk. The closest thing to a bed I've had in months.
