"We can't just leave him." Maria snaps at Peter as he pulls her away from the manor after Voldemort threatened to kill Regulus there and then if they didn't leave.

"We don't have a choice, Mar!" Peter says quickly, looking disheveled as he takes her hand and they suddenly disapparate. Maria gasps as they appear beside the stream about a five minute walk from her and Regulus' cottage where their friends and family are awaiting them worrisomely. "Black can look after himself."

"How can you say that?" Maria breathes, tears in her eyes as she stares at the blonde man that looks at her as though he's guilty. Soon, she'll remember this moment, realising the blatant expression on his face was the first hint that Peter Pettigrew wasn't the sweet, innocent Peter that she'd protected and saved. Maria will regret ever going after him. "He came with me at great personal risk to rescue you! And you—you just—he could die! He could die, Peter. Do you understand? They'll kill him."

   "Maria—"

"Get off me." Maria whacks his hand away forcefully making him stumble and recoil, staring at her with glossy eyes. "I'm going for a walk. Don't follow me."

Maria looks at him, shaking her head before strolling away from him angrily. Peter runs a stressful hand through his blonde hair and stares after her until he can no longer see her.

Maria reaches the river around fifteen minutes from where she and Peter had their argument and she crouches beside it. The waxing moon is bright and she can see it's reflection in the water as the light bounces off the dark ripples. A tears slides down her cheek that is flushed with anger as she contemplates her odds of getting both her and Regulus out of the manor alive if she returns.

Slim chance.

"Fuck it."

Maria appears outside the gate, sighing loudly but noticing that nobody seems to be stood on the gate because all the death eaters are inside listening in on whatever Riddle is saying or doing to Regulus. Raising her wand, Maria sighs, knowing that it's a dangerous thing to try and counter dark magic.

Yet nothing is too dangerous when it comes to Regulus Black.

Maria desperately used her magic until she feels completely powerless, her eyes becoming heavy and she realised that multiple dark wizards must have helped to put up such a strong defensive enchantment. Her hand that clutched her wand jitters slightly, feeling the magic leaving her and moving into the wand as she tries and tries to break past the dark barrier.

A wave of dizziness washes over her and she shakes her head, thinking of Nova. Nova can't grow up without a father, Maria won't let her grow up without her Dad.
