He sat down, he didn't want to ask how you were. He knew you weren't doing well. "What are you doing up here?" He gazed at you. You looked beautiful. He started to panic a-little when your eyes teared up.

"I come here to get away. Everyone in the clan looks at me and asks if I'm okay and I appreciate it. But I just want to forget. I want to pretend like it didn't happen." You force the tears back. Refusing to cry. Like all those years ago, except this time it was Neteyam who placed a hand on your shoulder.

"Y/n, You're one of the strongest woman I know. Especially since you can put up with Lo'ak and Kiri." You laugh at that. Neteyam's eyes soften he hadn't heard that beautiful intoxicating laugh in weeks. "You are going to get though this. Maybe not right now you're not ready to face it, but one day you will. Take all the time you need."

His smile was so soft, eyes staring straight into yours. When did Neteyam get so handsome? You thought to yourself. You took a deep breath. This was Neteyam not Lo'ak. Your heart belonged to Lo'ak. But you couldn't help but feel your heart twitch. What he said to you was exactly what you needed to hear. For the first time since your parents died, you felt a little peace, maybe it was because Neteyam said what you needed to hear or because he was sitting right next to you.

"Thank you Neteyam." You threaded your fingers between his. Neteyam stopped breathing. He hoped one day this would be a regular thing for the two of you. He didn't know when he started to fall for you, was it six years ago? Today? All he knew was that his heart belonged to you and only you. You had been the only one he had ever noticed.

You both sat there for a while, hand in hand. Watching the forest. He made you laugh a couple more times and continued to talk about things. You asked him how Olo'eyktan training was going. You told him stories of you, Kiri and Lo'ak's adventures. Some of them he didn't like as you had put yourself in danger. You bumped his shoulder with your arm telling him to not be such a fun killer.

He grabbed your arm trapping it. "Someone has to make sure you're safe" his eyes bore into yours. Always so intense. You blushed and pulled your arm out of his grip.

"You know I can protect myself" you crossed your arms playfully.

"Well, just know. If you ever need protecting. I'll always be here" you didn't realize it at the time but to Neteyam, it had a double meaning. Of course, he would always protect you. Even if you chose Lo'ak over him one day. He's always been there. Waiting for the day you noticed him.

...

You raised your head out of your arms when you heard some movement inside the hut.

"He's stable. Still unconscious. We will wait to see if he wakes up." Norm says quietly, him and max walk out. It had taken all night to preform the surgery. The sun started to rise. The Sully's hadn't come back yet either, and you were debating on going out to find them. But you couldn't leave Neteyam. You looked up at the sky.

"Please Great mother. Don't take them from me. Please, they are all I have left." You cried.

Tsireya came up to you hearing your words.

"Y/n, no matter what. You will always have the Metkayina and me." She hugged you tightly. "The great mother will never abandon you Y/n. I have hope they will be alright"

Through the tears your peered up at the horizon. Your prayers were then answered. You saw them. All of them. Tuk, Kiri, Lo'ak, Jake and Neytiri all on Payakan. They were alright. Your body relaxed a little.

"Go, make sure they are okay please. I'm going to stay with Neteyam." You walked into the hut.

He was hooked up to some machines with a big bandage wrapped around him. You kneeled down next to him and took his hand.
