"Well you're always perfect Neteyam. So you don't need to worry about that. Even if you aren't, I think your mom and dad will still love you." you tried to comfort him, saying the first thing that came to your head. He slowly looked over at you. You had no idea how much he needed to hear those words. Your eyes looked so pretty and he couldn't stop starting.
"Uh, Thanks." he shrugged, breaking eye contact. He didn't want you to see how you made his head spin. As the eclipse started to near, he insisted the two of you to go back. He smiled the whole time.
When you walked into camp Lo'ak and Kiri we're back. He saw your eyes light up and followed your gaze. Lo'ak. He noticed you seemed to be attached to him like a magnet. Maybe one day you could look at him like that.
You turned around and studied him for a second. Today was actually very nice and you had a good time playing with him. Maybe he wasn't such a fun killer.
"This was fun; Bye Neteyam." and you ran off. He was sad; your day together was over. His nine-year-old heart was broken while he stared at you and Lo'ak.
...
You and Tsireya screamed for help. It was dark now. Neteyam was losing a lot of blood. He was mumbling unconscious now.
"Let's play together," he mumbled.
Some Metkayina came out to help you. Tonowari one of them.
"Where is everyone else?" but when his eyes dropped to see Neteyam and all the blood. He sprung into action.
"Help me get the boy to the sky people!" he had never seen a wound like Neteyam's.
"Keep pressure on his wound!" you ordered, and someone did. You ran behind them as they carried Neteyam to Norm and Max.
"Neteyam! What happened," he asked you.
You started to cry again, the stress and the severity of the situation hits you again. Norm shook you.
"Y/n, I can't help him if you can't tell me what happened."
"B-bullet wound." you choked.
"Max! Bullet to the upper chest." he examined Neteyam. "The bullet is inside. We need to preform surgery."
"Surgery?" you questioned, you saw Max with a knife and he cut Neteyam. In that moment Neteyam woke up and started to yell.
"We need anesthesia!" Max called to Norm
"What are you doing!" you screamed. They were making it worse. They were hurting him. Norm grabbed you and pulled you outside.
"Y/n, this is what is going to save his life. Trust us. Stay out here" he ran back in.
You fell to the ground and sobbed. Your Neteyam. He was in pain. It was all your fault. if you hadn't left him, he would not have returned for you and gotten shot.
...
Your parents had just died. You didn't smile, laugh, or even want to eat. Everyone was worried. Neteyam would steal glances at you during dinner. Your meal in front of you hadn't even been touched. He desperately wanted you to be happy again. You couldn't stare at your food anymore and excused yourself. Neteyam watched as you left. He was mad at Lo'ak; he had barely talked to you since your parents passed. Who was there to comfort you?
He stood up and followed you out. He quietly watched as you wandered into the woods and climbed up a tree. He didn't notice it was the tree you had climbed together many years ago.
You jumped when you saw him. "Neteyam. Hi."
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." He felt shy. He hasn't been alone with you for a while. Here and there you were alone in the hut together but wouldn't really speak besides small talk. You were 14 now, each year you became more beautiful.
