"I need you all to pay attention very closely. We are guests, I'm begging you, please be good," Jake talked, making sure to look us each in the eye as he spoke, "you do your part, you learn quickly, and please stay out of trouble" he stared at you and Lo'ak for the last one. You nodded. This serious tone of Jake's constantly reminded you of your father.
...
Tsireya, Ao'nung and another boy arrived at your hut.
"We will start today in the water for your lessons." Tsireya spoke, even her voice was pretty.
"To formally introduce myself, I'm Tsireya; this is my younger brother Ao'nung and his friend Rotxo." the boys nodded at you and you could see them sizing you all up.
The first thing Neteyam noticed was Ao'nungs gaze staying on you for just a second longer than everyone else. He shot daggers at him but quickly calmed down, remembering you're all supposed to be friends.
"I'm Neteyam; these are my younger siblings L-" he was cut off by Lo'ak who stepped a little in front of him
"I'm Lo'ak, this is Kiri, Tuk, and Y/n" it was the first time since arriving that Lo'ak looked at you. After introducing you, his gaze immediately fell on Tsireya again.
Neteyam glanced at you and saw your eyes trained on the sand in front of you as if it was the most exciting thing in the world. He frowned and was already preparing his thoughts to talk to Lo'ak later. He will not have you upset, especially since you have all just arrived.
Kiri was ready to push Lo'ak into the water. Yes, the boy was young and didn't realize he was hurting you, but it also didn't sit well with her. She knew Y/n had liked Lo'ak since they were little. Kiri was a part of the trio and knew her brother looked at Y/n differently, too. Kiri noticed Neteyam starting to get upset and flicked his hand. She gave him a look, and he took a deep breath. She also knew Neteyam had a thing for you. Lately, though, she has noticed him being bolder and interacting with you one-on-one.
...
You had all jumped in the water; it was terrific. The creatures, the colors of the coral, it was insane to you. You and Kiri had strayed a bit from the group; you couldn't bare seeing Lo'ak enamored. with Tsireya. Kiri was a pro at diving; when you both came up for air, you splashed her.
"I didn't know you could breathe underwater. Are you half fish" you laughed
"Oh, stop it." she splashed you back she laughed but then became serious, "y/n. I'm sorry about Lo'ak."
Your eyes widened, "what do you mean?" playing dumb.
"Y/n, I'm your sister; I know you've liked him since we were like 9."
"It doesn't matter; it's not like we are together" at that moment, you wanted to dive underwater and not come back up.
"I know, but there is something there; I know both of you very well, and he has feelings for you too; he just-" she trailed off
"He just is entirely obsessed with Tsireya." you turned your head to the movement coming towards you two. It was the rest of your group. Yay.
Lo'ak swam to you, "what are you guys doing, don't leave us like that. We thought you drowned or something." he splashed you but you were not even a bit amused.
"You can chill; we're fine." you looked at Tsireya, "what else do you have planned for us today," you spoke nicely.
Lo'ak was taken aback by your tone with him. Neteyam smirked at this, and Kiri just raised her eyebrows. You have shifted from sadness to anger, and she loved it. Neteyam liked that you were nice to Tsireya, although she was partly responsible for your heartache. He liked that you didn't blame her. It showed your character.
