Chapter 14: A Foolish Little Star

Start from the beginning

"She is... deceptively intelligent."

"I might imagine." Cesare's smile was bitter. He can only imagine all the things that led them to this point.

"But this is not important now." Faking a cough, Sona urged a change of topic. "Thank you for notifying us. We will handle the situation from here."

"I thank you for taking your precious time to listen to my warning." The man bowed his head humbly. "Though, I urge you to act in haste. Who knows when that attacker or the culprit itself makes their move? But also, be careful. The death of either Princess might come with unfortunate steps." Especially if their Maou relatives take revenge if either of them gets hurt — or, in the worst case, dies.

"We are aware of that."

"We will be careful."

"In that case, my mission here is completed."

"What are you planning now? Do you have anywhere else to go? If you want, we can provide protection."

"No, that won't be necessary, but thank you." Cesare stood up, prepared to leave. "I will continue my investigation in your town the best I can." He was sure, whoever was his pursuer, she left some kind of trace behind.

There was no way they made all the tracks disappear!

"Besides, I doubt they can handle the situation alone. Better stick around." He gave his warning. From now on, he only prayed these kids would realize the seriousness of the situation and notify people who can actually handle whatever comes.

Nonetheless, meeting them was enough to make the senior exorcist consider remaining and offering his help — if needed.

He by no means wanted to die. No! He was terrified and wanted to get the hell out of this town! But if this conflict gets out of hand, many innocent people will perish due to the act of a rogue element — due to him being a coward! Worse! It may spark a conflict that can crush the balance and bring forth an apocalyptic scenario!

"I can't allow that!"

"You can contact me with this — if you find something." He handed Sona and Rias one-one small communication device. "I will do the same. Please, be careful. If all things fall, don't hesitate to call your brother and sister's aid. This is not a game! The survival of all three sides depends on your actions here!"

The two groups before the man stiffened slightly before Rias and Sona collected themselves.

"Don't worry. We will take the necessary steps."

"Thank you for your advice."

After giving a bow to the two devil princesses, and one slight nod to Asia, Cesare left, leaving the group alone to discuss and decide their further steps.

Scene Change: Gillian's Café: At night:

The café was already emptied, closing at nighttime. Gillian and the rest of her crew were on to close.

"Well, how was your first day?"

"It was tiring, but... but I must admit, it was fun." Aika sighed, drowning a well-deserved fuzzy drink, eating a mouthful from her sandwich. She already changed to casual, prepared to return home.

"I am glad. So, coming tomorrow too?"

"Maybe I will. Especially because I receive such fat tips!" Proud, she waved her face with the bundle of banknotes. "Like this, it will not take long to pay back what I owe." Naturally, Gillian insisted that she keep the tips and what she owed to her deducted from her base pay.
