"Huh?" Mertinia stopped as Gillian covered the phone's microphone once again, stopping right before the exit. "What do you want?"

"You look like a good kid, be aware, people like him tend to backstab others." Yeah! His karma value told her that much.

"Like you know! Perverted mage! What do you even know about me!?"

"Nothing... only what your aura tells me. Be careful who you trust. It would be a shame to lose such a unique soul like yours."

"What?" Mertinia blinked, caught off guard for a moment.

"Mertinia, come!" Kokabiel's voice came from outside.

The girl hesitated for a moment but followed the man nonetheless.

[Hallo...? Are you still here?] The devil secretary asked, concerned on the other end of the line.

"Yeah... here." Gillian sighed. "Sorry, I will call him back later." Gillian ended the call after this, recovering a small Dictaphone from her inventory. "New mental suggestion and condition experiment Alpha FA182... in progress. Partial success after the first treatment. Subject A, a high-ranked Fallen, named Kokabiel was reluctant to attack — despite his best intentions. Moreover, he even stopped subject B, a..."

"I-Is he gone?" Mittelt came out from the staff area in the next moment, looking around fearfully and still trembling.

"!"

Stopping the recording, Gillian looked in her direction with a sly smile.

"It seems so."

"Guuh! Mittelt hates you! Why do you have to provoke everyone!?" Especially Kokabiel, who was famous for his violent tendencies. Hell! Amongst all the Fallen leaders, he was the scariest and most bloodthirsty one!

"Hate you! Hate you! Hate you!"

Mittelt can't help but be so pent up she marched right in front of Gillian and started to hit her chest — which, considering their height and strength difference, looked quite cute.

"Chill out, Mittelt-chan; everything is under control." She messed up the blonde locks of her very own Fallen maid. "See? He is afraid of a phone call. He is as dangerous as a sheep. A barking dog, nothing else."

"Grrr! Chill out? CHILL OUT!? First, Azazel-sama! Then Baraqiel-sama! Then Vali-sama and the devils! Sooner or later, they will get you — And Mittelt will be in the crossfire!"

"Probably you are right." Gillian sighed, then flashed a smile to her. "But you either die slowly, turning into a nobody, or go down in a blaze of glory. You want to live a boring life, Mittelt-chan?"

"Guuh! You are impossible! You make Mittelt's head hurt! Mittelt had enough! Mittelt will go to sleep out this nightmare!" Turning around, Mittelt returned to her room, muttering grouchy all along. She had enough of Gillian's antics for that day.

"Good night, Mittelt-chan, don't let the bedbugs bite." Waving to her, Gillian continued her note before she abruptly stopped.

Where will her experiment lead? Read to find out!

Scene Change: Underworld: Phenex Territory:

The castle of Phenex household!

In size, it was bigger than the Gremory mansion! Designed to mirror the clan's affinity of inextinguishable flames and unstoppable winds — and, of course, showcasing their immense wealth earned through selling Phoenix Tears.

A grand, golden phoenix statue guarded the entrance, bathing in the flames of the fountain it rested.

Further signifying the grandness of this place, on the two sides leading to the entrance, rows of columns with flames on the top were visible.
