"Yeah... maybe you are right." Hummed the man, trying to think of the exact reason. "Maybe because of that sensor outage that happened recently?"
"Probably, the values were crazy! All off charts! I have never seen something like this before." All of their sensors have been going crazy more and more often for almost three months. What was the exact reason? Even the head engineer couldn't say.
"Maybe sensor malfunction?" Again!
"I doubt it... we checked them multiple times, and all of the sensors went AWOL at the same time — hell, some of them simply exploded!" She was there. It was scary! "There is no way it is a simple malfunction. Something big is brewing up..."
"Hmm..." The engineer pondered for a moment; it was indeed strange. He saw his superior's face — the face of the "Ice Queen" — when she checked the values. It was anything but her usual, stoic self.
No! She looked terrified even — running out of the room right away!
"Well, whatever! We better get back to work!"
"But..."
"Didn't your section leader already give you a warning?" One glance was enough for him to understand what she meant.
"Yeah! Yeah! Better hurry before I am late again." Standing up with a gloomy face, the angelic engineer continued his way towards his destination — completely ignoring his sometimes annoying friend.
"Good day to you too, Jophkiel." Her friend was already running towards his destination — stumbling in his long robe and falling forward again a few dozens of meters away.
"Typical..."
Shaking her head, she ignored Jophkiel's clumsy nature, her mind focusing on more important and exciting matters already.
"Wonder why those two are here? Let's find out!"
Showing a grin, the short Celestial Engineer flapped her four wings, starting to float higher to find more info about the Seraph's objective and the source of the strange readings recently.
The ORC clubroom: A few hours later: Close to nighttime:
"Problematic..." Sona Sitri adjusted her glasses, a bead of sweat coursing down her forehead.
"Exactly." The exorcist nodded, facing the two devil princesses.
Both sides sat on comfortable couches.
As usual, the members of the two peerages stood behind their respective Kings, waiting and listening in silence to what the strange man and their leaders discussed.
"Though, knowing the reputation of the current four Maou, they might try to barter for a peaceful solution. Unfortunately, not everyone wants peace."
A strange unease started to rise between the sides as the man took a sip from the tea prepared before him.
"On all three sides, there are elements — even today — who would rather continue or restart the great war." People who are forcefully put down or silenced when it all ended. "The historical evidence is obvious. Just look at your history! The devil civil war is just one example of the fragmentation that is already underway. It is present not only in your society, but in the church, heaven, but even for the Fallen too."
"That's... true." Both Sona and Rias agreed, knowing well their own people's history.
One of the main reasons behind the Devil Civil war was the Old Maou Faction's discontent with how the Great War ended.
One side wanted to continue the war — even if it meant the total annihilation of their own people — the other wanted peace and recovery from their losses — a goal they can't accomplish fully even today.
