Chapter 12: Deserved Rest/Disturbing Guests

"Okaa-san! Hamsuke-chan remained behind! Okaa-san!"

"Hanako! Okaa-san is speaking! Be quiet!"

"But Okaa-san..."

"Huh? What a noisy child." The two glanced towards a girl and her mother who passed through the street. The mother was too busy chatting through her phone to pay attention to her kid, making the child restless as she left her plushie behind.

Of course, her lack of care had consequences, as it only took a moment, and the child slipped out from her mother's grasp, running through the street where she left her plushie.

"Hanako! Don't run!"

At that exact moment, a truck appeared out of nowhere, speeding forward like the new Shinigami of Japanese people! Unstoppable and non-bargainable, seeking to send heroes to different worlds!

The driver was too tired after his double shift, too dizzy to react in time, unable to recognize the small person running before his drive.

"Shit..." Gillian swore, already seeing where this is heading.

"What are you doing!?" Kiryuu blinked in confusion, unable to react fast enough as Gillian dropped the bag's worth of "Otaku material" and started to sprint. Her way surely crosses the speeding car, making her death likely if she continues.

"Look out!"

"Noo!" The mother cried out in fright, already trying to reach after her child, but she was just too slow! She will not reach her in time! She even dropped her phone though she so eagerly chatted with her girlfriend a moment ago.

"Hamsuke-chan!" Hanako just reached her fake hamster when she came face to face with the metal monstrosity with four bright eyes!

"Huh?"

Most people don't yet realize what is about to happen! Even the little girl only glimpsed her closing fate too late.

"Gillian!" Yet, the selected few already understood what tragic accident will follow in the next few moments.

Amongst them, Kiryuu was unable to stop her friend, only watched her frozen as she willingly ran before her inevitable demise.

She saw what was about to happen! But she was too shocked, too frozen to do anything!

The shock and the amount of information overwhelmed her brain, rooting her to the ground!

In life-threatening situations, people usually have the illusion as time dilates around them, able to perceive things slower than they normally happen.

This exact thing happened with Kiryuu and everyone who watched the scene, watching as almost painfully slow the truck closed on the little girl! Watching as all alone, the strange white-haired student willingly ran towards her. Almost unnaturally agile and fast, fearless, she risked her life!

Will she reach her? Will they both die? All around the people rooted for the strange student! But most of them already accepted their inevitable death — Seeing little chance for their survival!

They will not make it in time. Everyone was sure of it...

Unable to do anything, the people just awaited the inevitable to happen! Many even turned their head away in sorrow, regret, and rage, feeling helpless, even blaming themselves a little bit.

"NOOOO!"

The little girl's mother fell on her knees, screaming like a banshee, already mourning her great loss!

But suddenly, something incredible happened! Only a few millimeters away from the truck, Gillian grabbed the small girl, rolling out of the way of the "New Shinigami"! It was almost like she blurred for a moment, only barely avoiding her head being crushed into a bloody mush by the wheel.
