Chapter 12: Deserved Rest/Disturbing Guests

Start from the beginning

Gillian waved gently to the child as they started to distance, smiling as she mumbled.

"Stupid bitch..."

"Geez! That woman was really horrible..."

"Well... The Lion, the Witch, and the audacity of this bitch..." Gillian muttered while still waved and smiled.

"Yeah..." Kiryuu grimaced, recalling the scene in her head. "Nonetheless..." 'Slap!'

"Au! Hey! What's that for!?"

"Are you out of your mind!? You almost died!"

"Well, it happens time to time. It is this, or leaving that kid to die." Seriously, what was her problem?!

"Haah! I suppose you are right." Kiryuu, though, didn't say out loud, but what Gillian did was really cool, brave, but above all reckless! Even thinking about it just made her blush and shudder.

Not hesitating for a moment, but dashing before a speeding truck just to save someone? She wished she would have the balls to do that without hesitation — no, even moving an inch would be better than watching the events paralyzed by fear.

She froze up! And Gillian just did it without a second thought! She was really something else...

"Like a freaking anime MC...!"

Well, she surely has the looks of an anime protagonist — sticking out in the crowd in Japan — now she proved she even has the heroic spirit to pair with it.

"I mean, what's the worst that can happen?" Ignoring the praises of the people from all around, the player walked back to the other side, grabbing the scattered "treasures" from the ground.

"You die..." Kiryuu said, her face is a directed flat stare.

"Then I hope Truck-kun sends me to another world, with cheat-like powers!"

"Geez! You really are something else. You know that only happens in anime and light novels, right?"

"Well, you can never know..." Gillian stuck her tongue mischievous.

Subtly, she glanced on the side, feeling a strange presence, spotting a similar truck drive through the crossroad not far. It stopped for a moment before the STOP sign, almost like it inspected her for a moment.

It was odd, as she felt no living being drove that car, it was like it was remote controlled... or, better said, had their own eldritch intelligence, the driver being only a dummy.

"Odd, I felt something similar when that car almost hit that girl..." The truck driving away, she shook such nonsense out of her head, she will investigate it later.

"...The new Shinigami of the Japanese people works in mysterious ways." Gillian finished her sentence, using a rather sarcastic tone.

"You really are...."

"By the way, what were you wanting to ask?"

"When?"

"Before that scammer interrupted us."

"Ah! That! Well..." By turning her head away, Kiryuu blushed, visibly hesitating.

"Spit it out. I have things to do." Recovering a croissant from the bag they bought under the way, she started gnawing on it.

"I..." Gathering her courage, the brunette girl stated her request.

Scene Change: At Night: Kuoh:

The night was prevalent over Kuoh. Under the covering embrace of darkness in this late hour, only shady figures walked outside.

Among them, sitting on the river bank that cut through the city, two lone figures were visible, holding what looked like makeshift fishing rods.
