"Hanako!"

"Okaa-san?" The kid was still too stunned to recognize just what kind of danger she was saved from, looking around all confused and clueless.

"Don't ever do this again!" The girl named Hanako was embraced by her mother tightly, almost suffocating her.

"Where is Hamsuke-chan?"

"That's not important! Just what were you thinking running in front of that truck!?"

"I..." The small girl blinked in confusion, still not able to understand what her mother was saying.

"Here she is... kido."

"Hamsuke-chan!" She embraced the prized toy, ignoring her mother, rubbing her face against the belly of the strange-looking hamster toy. "Thank you, Nee-san!"

"Don't mention it." Her head was rubbed by Gillian, messing up her brown hair.

The people around sighed, relieved. Some even clapped for the heroic deed.

"How courageous!"

"Did you see her?"

"So cool!"

"Ho-How can I thank you?"

"Well, next time, rather than your phone, pay attention to your kid..." Gillian wanted to say, but rather held her tongue.

"Ah, it was nothing, really. Just pay more attention to her next time."

Brushed herself down the player.

Indeed, all along the way, the mother rather chatted with her girlfriend through her expensive phone than listening to her kids' request to go back for her plushie. Hanako asked her multiple times, yet, the mother was deaf to her request, chiding her to remain silent.

Seeing her, it was not surprising. She looked exactly like that, a "trophy wife," a gold digger with little sense of responsibility towards anyone — even for herself.

"Still, if there is anything..."

"Some money will do then." Gillian said so deadpanned, opening and stretching forth her palm. If she really insisted, she'll accept the reward. She will not be meek and refuse it. "I also accept Pay Pal or credit card."

"Excuse me?" The mother blinked, it seems, she didn't expect someone who just saved her kid to ask for a reward when asked. Especially not money. Most likely she expected Gillian to be "heroic" and refuse the reward.

"Money..." Gillian repeated herself. "You asked what I need. I said money will do."

"Hmph! You are greedy! But fine then!" She recovered her purse, and handed a thousand yen to Gillian. "Here you go..."

"Thousand yen, really? How generous..." Really? She just saved her child from certain death, the least she expected some reward that compensated her for risking her life.

"Have your parents not taught you gratitude, young lady?"

"Not really, they are dead..." Mumbled Gillian uncaring.

"Hmm, either way. Saving a child is its own reward. You should know this."

"Whatever... just take care of her better, or I'll kick your butt next time." Gillian snatched away a few more banknotes from the woman's purse. Using her otherworldly speed, the woman didn't even realize it had happened. "And buy some ice cream for that kid! She deserves this much at least."

"Hmph! Little chit..." Mumbled the woman indignant before turning away, pulling Hanako behind her.

"Bye, Onee-san!"
