"It seems, when a new Maou takes the mantle, they have to resign from their family name and cut ties..." Why was it this way? Gillian had a few ideas. But she was sure this much would not stop a corrupt Maou from abusing his/her authority and give more favor to their family than others.
"See what happened with Rias..." Sirzechs being Rias' brother and greatly caring about her, is one thing, entirely another matter when he abuses his authority, power, and money to buy her servants and advantages.
"That's all! Once you are transported, you will be unable to use magic-circle until the game ends. Good luck to you all."
After bowing, a sizable magic circle lit up under the participants. Not bearing the Gremory or Phenex symbols, but belonging to someone else.
Under a moment, the light covered everyone, transporting them to a different dimension.
...
"Wha... where!? Were we transported?" Issei glanced around clueless. No matter how hard he tried, he found no difference between this place and their clubroom.
[Hello everyone. I am Grayfia, a maid from the House of Gremory, and today I will be the arbiter of the Rating match between the House of Gremory and the House of Phenex.]
Grayfia announced, her voice seemingly coming everywhere and nowhere.
"What a cheap trick..." Gillian almost rolled her eyes. Such effect can be easily replicated using, for example, the [Project Voice] or [Announce] skills — the latter basically every player possessed as the part of the base set.
Pretty useless skills alone but can be used as a distraction and for non-combat events to announce things.
[In the name of my Master, Sirzech Lucifer, will be keeping my eye on this match. Using both Rias-sama and Riser-sama's opinions, we created this battlefield, a replica of the school, Kuoh Academy — which Rias-sama attends in the human world.]
And the explanation went on, giving detail about the "bases" of the two sides.
For Rias, it was the ORC clubroom. For that Yakitori guy, it was the student council room located in the new building.
Pawns, like in chess, can use "promotion" once they enter the enemy's base. Etc.
Grayfia already gave details about this for Gillian, so, instead of paying real attention, she was busy scanning the dimension with her skill, using multiple anti-divination measurements to mask her presence.
"I see... a heavily limited area — basically, only the school. This means this is an artificial pocket dimension. Anchor points on Earth still responding and answering the masked pings..."
Which meant she could use teleportation and similar dimensional movement skills to get away if needed.
"Until now, no attempt to block my pings has been detected. Neither is the dimension locked. There is a little chance they detected me..." Or, they simply don't show any signs of it, and waiting for her to make a blunder? She can't neglect this possibility.
"Everyone, please, put this transceiver in your ears."
Akeno handed everyone a small glowing button-like device, and they put it in their ears.
"..." Gillian held it in her fingers for a few seconds, using [Greater Analyze Item] to identify its purpose.
As it came to light, aside from its obvious purpose to communicate, it held no other function — No booby traps or otherwise.
[Now it's the time for the commencement of the battle. Also, this match will continue till dawn in the humans' time. The game starts... now!]
There was a change in the atmosphere as the game started.
