"Hmph! You talk just like Sairaorg."
"Sairaorg?" Who's that guy? Gillian had no idea about it.
"My cousin. I may introduce you two one day. From what I heard just now, you two are very alike." Rias's movements were smug, throwing her long crimson hair behind her back. Yet, thanks to Gillian's heightened perception, she clearly saw and felt the subtle signs of fear on her.
"Oh, that's good. I can't wait. He sounds like a determined person." Yet, Gillian seemingly paid her no heed. Either she got used to it or really doesn't care about it anymore.
"Yeah, I know no person who is more determined than him," Rias remembered her cousin.
The eldest son of house Bael was supposed to inherit the power of destruction and his family's head position. Yet, he inherited nothing, no meaningful demonic powers, no noteworthy talent, nor the Power of Destruction. He was even stripped of his role as the next head because of this, shunned and scorned, sent to the countryside with his mother so they would not be in the spotlight.
Under such circumstances, the boy can only count on his sheer will, determination, and body. And yet, he succeeded where others would have failed! Training until he surpassed everyone, and by sheer strength and will, crawled out from the darkness his own father banished him to, becoming a prominent figure who even defeated the next head of house Bael.
If this is not an inspiring story, then Rias knows not what it is.
"Why are you here, Red? I guess it has some purpose, and you didn't just approach me for some idle chatter."
"Why do you say that? Maybe I just want to know you better..." Rias offered her best, friendly smile. Though she knew well her approach had some purpose, it never hurt knowing the other — Especially someone so mysterious as Gillian.
"Right..." Gillian turned her head towards her slowly, offering a flat and not so amused expression. "Do as you wish, just don't disturb my work." With that, she returned her attention to her screen.
"By the way, what are you doing?" Glancing at Gillian, then leaning to inspect what was on the screen, Rias raised her brow. "This is..."
"Recording your team's data, trying to create a combat and personal profile. From this, we can make a plan for the match. You said that Riser guy and his team have experience. Experience that you lack. The best way to counter an opponent and his team with experience is to observe the fighting sides, create a profile, then simulate battle scenarios until we find the best way towards victory." The player's expression was still blank, her fingers moving ceaselessly. She looked like a person who is in a trance, doing countless calculations at once.
"Hmm, you speak like you did something like this before."
"Hmm, indeed I did." For a moment, Gillian stopped, pushing her left palm against her chin, and forcibly tilted her head. 'Crack!' Gillian's neck cracked loud, making Rias shudder for a moment.
"Ah! That was so good!"
"May I ask when?" Regaining her composure, Rias continued her questioning.
She had the suspicion Gillian knew about the supernatural all along. In fact, someone trained her to counter them. How else could she counter a trained exorcist so easily? How else could she beat up a Fallen like they were thugs from the side of the road? How else could she keep up with devils and even defeat Koneko — true, in a very unhonorable and nasty way. But above all, how else could she outwit even the Maou?
"I still don't believe Onii-san's excuse. He surely let her win."
Yes! There was no way a human — even if exceptional — can beat her brother just like that. There was no way that would happen!
