How did I get here?

That's all I could think as I walked the empty halls of Canterlot Castle, my golden shoes clinking with every step I took. 'I knew I should've taken these off.' I thought to myself as I walked, the moonlight illuminating the halls and providing a clear path for me as I walked.

As I finally came to a stop in front of the balcony doors. It wasn't the first time that I'd taken these nightly walks and it wouldn't be the last. After all I was still on edge since I had escaped my father three weeks ago.

Now I understand that you may be confused so let's start from the beginning shall we?

I'm Ruby, daughter of the beloved princess Celestia and the villain king Sombra. I have no idea how that came to be but it did. Most of my fillyhood was spent playing with the guards at my mother's castle. Although everypony was worried that I wouldn't be happy being stuck in the castle like I was, I proved them wrong.

Sorry, got a little carried away there.

Now, you must be wondering how I had the curved horn even before my father did. Nopony knew why, but I was born like that, therefore I had to stay in the castle to prevent any attacks on me for my special horn. Although, as time passed my parents fought more and my father left with me. Taking me somewhere I had never seen before. That was before he threw me in a room and locked me in chains.

As more time passed I had noticed that my father's appearance had started to mimic mine and I had also learned that he despised me for being the cause of them splitting up. I guess that's how I ended up becoming part of his army to prove my worth and how I had gotten the scar that ran down the left side of my face, starting above my eyebrow and ending on my neck. There had been a dragon attack a week prior to me escaping and I had fended it off by myself, resulting in the scar and many others that lined my body.

My appearance had slowly become more menacing to the other ponies. Although I don't blame them for being scared of me in the first place. I mean just look at me, the way my black coat can't seem to reflect light like the other ponies coats could, or the fact that my hair, despite being a black fading to red, still had that same familiar sparkle that celestias has, or more importantly my long gradient red curved horn. I also suppose that my cutie mark doesn't help either, it being a sword going through roses.

Even now as I walked out onto the balcony, I hid my cutie mark with some armor that I had gotten when I moved to the castle. Even if I wasn't to be seen I couldn't take a risk. I let our a sign as I sat down and leaned against the railing, looking up at the moon. I had always found the night more calming than the day. I guess that's why I had decided to take my aunt Luna's position of raising the moon over the sun.

Anyways, enough about that.

I stood up from the balcony and walked back to my room, ignoring the guards as they backed away from me.

I eventually made it back to my room and laid in my bed, letting my eyes fall closed and smiled as sleep overcame my exhausted body.
