A family of demons who all work with metal and make swords; weapons. The youngest fire Demon in this family, who all want him to work with metal and follow the family business, but he wants to be a woodworker and make sculptures.
In secret he makes sculptures, starting quite small so he can hide them from his family. But one night the Demon is finishing off a sculpture in a park when someone appears, scaring the Demon and he runs away leaving the sculpture. This person is the mayor of their village. The mayor finds the collection and loves them, he looks at them and they remind him of someone.
The next day he holds a meeting in the town centre. Saying that he found these sculptures and would like to know who made them.
The demon's family laugh at this request as they think woodwork is pointless, especially sculptures.
The mayor ignores them but no one claims to of made them. The mayor then states that he would like whoever made these sculptures to make one for the town centre.
The demon hears this and smiles, playing it off as laughing.
Later that night he goes out to the woods and picks out a large log. He starts to remove the bark and plan out a sculpture but stops as he hears a stick break. He then hides behind the log, overhearing his father talking to his brother about how they want to train him in the family business. After they leave the demon continues his work, wanting to prove to his father that metal work isn't the only good thing.
He makes it for a while until one night someone comes out of the shadows and walks up to him. The demon doesn't hear him and just keeps carving. But soon his father speaks "So, this is what you do all night"
The demon freezes and drops his tools before slowly turning around and quietly answering "Yes, it is"
The father walks around the large log and looks at it, he looks from the sculpture to his son and stops to stare at his boys eyes. He just grabs his son by his shoulder and drags him away, saying nothing. The boy protests and hits his father shouting "I just want to make a sculpture, what the hell is wrong with that!. Why do you hate woodworking so much?" As soon as he says this, regret over comes him and he stutters out "Sorry. I... Sorry" his father just sighs before walking away saying "Don't come back"
The demon boy leans against his sculpture and continues to work, holding back tears. In the morning he had fallen asleep next to it. His older brother comes to find him and sees him sat next to the sculpture. He looks at the sculpture and loves it, though he thinks there's something missing. The demon boy wakes up and notices his brother. He instantly gets up and looks around for his dad.
"He's not here, I came alone"
"Why are you here?"
"Because you're my brother. Did you make this?"
"Yeah, I did"
"That'll be why he's grumpy"
The brother looks at the demon boy and just says "it's missing something."
"I was planning on burning it slightly. I mean I do have fire powers"
"Go on then"
The demon boy then flys onto the statue and starts to char certain places until he decides it looks good. He stands back, his brother by his side. They both smile as his brother exclaims "Now, all we gotta do is get it to town centre"
"Yep, how are we gonna do that. It's really heavy and I don't think our wings alone could lift it"
His brother has an idea and flies away through the forest.
The brother flies up to a house, prominently made of metal and crashes inside banging the door and waking up his father, who was passed out on the couch. He goes up to his father and shouts "Come on you big oofus, you've got a job to do"
His father resists as he starts to actually wake up. His eldest son then continues to explain "Well, we have a statue to move and your wings are the only ones big enough to lift it, so get the fuck up and apologise to your son."
His father stands up and says "First off I will not be helping you idiots and he's not my son anymore. Also I have nothing to apologise for"
"My god you are an idiot. First off you will be helping us as you're the one that has a problem with it and that's it. Also you hurt your boys heart and I will hurt yours if you don't apologise and explain why you hate woodwork"
He stands there smirking as his father stays still almost stunned in place.
He puts a hand on his father's shoulder saying "atleast explain things to him. But remember you don't get to control what he does" his father sighs getting up and leaving the house, outstretching his wings saying "Fine, but I'm not apologising"
They fly back to the demon boy who had been refining his statue while he waited. He sees his father and brother coming through the trees so gets up and outstretches his wings.
His father lands, his large wings rattling the trees. He looks directly at his son saying "Well, shall we move this shitty thing" his eldest son glares at him "what this idiot is trying to say, Is that he'd love to help you move your statue"
"That was not what I said" his father snarls "anyway, where the fuck are we moving this thing?" His eldest son is still annoyed but thinks 'well, this is the best We're getting'.
The demon boy just says "the town centre" his father fly's to the top of the statue and releases the claws on his hands and locks on. He starts to fly but the statue drags him down a bit, until he finally gets it off the ground. He starts to fly and hits a couple trees but ultimately he manages to move it, his son's following him. His eldest gets in line next to him and points his head at his brother "go on, talk to him"
"Not now, I'm trying not to drop this thing, why the hell is it so heavy"
"Because wood is heavy and that's most of a large log" his son chimes in.
His father thinks for a second and asks "what kind of wood is it?"
"Oak, obviously that's the only wood that should be used for sculptures"
The fathers face changes and he looks a tad sad "well, atleast you know your wood"
His eldest adds "Will you just explain why you hate woodwork"
"Who the hell said that i hate woodwork, I don't hate it. I loved it, until I stopped loving it. Now both of you shut up or I'm dropping this thing"
Both his son's look at him intrigued but decide against saying anything. Their father stays silent for the rest of the way until they get to the town centre where he sets the statue down and lands, retracting his wings. His kids do the same, as the mayor comes to look at the statue. He smiles at the father saying "I see you got back into your work"
"I didn't. I meant what I promised. This is my boys work" he pushes his son towards the mayor. The demon boy is a little nervous but happy with his statue. The mayor congratulates the boy and states "This is a wonderful piece, you really are like your father"
"What?"
The mayor looks at the boys father, who says "I know, I probably should've told them"
"You really should of." He then says to the father's sons "You know your father used to love woodwork until... I actually don't know what happened but he stopped woodworking and followed his wives profession of metal working"
The mayor goes over to the father asking "What did happen?"
He stays quiet and the mayor repeats his question. The father sighs and walks up to the statue, tracing it with his claw. "What happened was... I got married and I had to choose, so I chose her and I will never regret that choice. Though I'd love to woodwork again, I don't think it's my calling anymore." He looks over to his son "I think we have a new woodworker though and a great one at that" he smiles as they stand together Infront of a wood statue of a woman with devil wings. A lovely mother, a beautiful wife and a great metalworker.
