The sound of the wooden floors was the only comfort for Jayden as she flew past maids trying to get her back to her mother she was stumbling and tripping over her flowing dress.
She snapped her fingers with a spell in mind and she was in sneakers, leggings and a top. Jayden flew past more people, pushed past guards and rammed through the palace door.
With another snap of her fingers, a shield was in her hand, and she slid down the hill. Her long brown hair flew through the air. Once she was at the bottom of the mountain the maids and guards had stopped chasing after her, she jogged the rest of the way to her destination, a large mansion not too far from the palace.
The mansion was made of sparkling, white marble and trimmed with glittering gold, the columns at the front were huge. The building looked like a temple you might find in Neaki. She walked into the giant mansion the entryway was surrounded by bookshelves filled with books about magic, history and many, many other subjects.
Jayden sped walked down to the main lounge where she knew everybody would be, eyebrows knitted and thoughts spiralling. She forcibly pushed open the doors with a loud bang everybody’s eyes turned to her and silence fell.
“Where’s Emma?” She shouted, her desperate voice echoing through the room.
Everybody looked at each other the first to speak up was Flame his skin was brown but had white blotches all across his skin. “She was here earlier but ran off quickly,” He retorted, voice gruff like always. The boy in his lap Jason uncurled and nodded.
“She said she was looking for a magic book when she came by but I couldn’t find the one she wanted,” Jason added he had deep bags under his eyes and pale skin.
The Moleant, Strike spoke next, “why are you so panicked? Emma runs off all the time,” he inquired, rolling his eyes and star nose wiggling.
“It has been… 6 bloody hours Strike! She’s never been gone this long!” Jayden shouted, desperation quivering in her voice.
Strike rolled his eyes again and brushed Jayden off as being overdramatic, she sighed and walked over to a large round table: she dug around in her pocket to find her phone.
Jayden fiddled around a bit until a map of Cystine came up on the table, after a minute or two flashing dots showed up on the map, most located in the same spot but one was in the middle of the forest.
Jayden’s face turned from shock to horror to anger.

“Jayden, I don’t think we need to do this, I’m sure Emma doesn’t want you breathing down her neck twenty-four-seven,” Flame added, he was behind the other two Jason and Jayden leading the group.
“Flame, Emma is fifteen, an idiot teen, and in the middle of a bloody forest, I think we do!” She snapped back at him. She looked down back at her phone, “we’re getting close,” Jayden mumbled.
The group found a clearing, a clearing with bugs buzzing, birds chirping the breeze swaying the trees, and a pink phone lowly beeping, Jayden ran towards the phone eyes wide, tears threatening to spill at any moment. She sank to her knees, shame taking over her mind.
Jason and Flame stood behind her, both sharing a look of grief.
“Something feels… Off” Jason remarked quietly, Flame gave him a curious look.
Jason walked off, inspecting the area. He came across a cave filled with crystals of all colours stinking out of the ground and ceiling.
He admired the cave, captured by its beauty, its glimmering beauty put him in a trace.
Crystals hung from the roof and peeked out from the damp moss-covered ground. He felt a powerful dark aurora pull him in, and he followed it like a worm to wet, muddy dirt.
Flame looked up from Jayden, he spun around looking for Jason until he spotted the cave and Jason walking in “doll? You ok?” he inquired, but no answer. “Jas? Jason?” he strode over to him, his tail curling in anxiety. Flame grabbed his shoulder and called for him again.
Jason gasped, looking around his lips pursed, “are you ok? You look worried” Flame asked.
“I… I don’t know,”
“What happened? It seemed like you were in a trance,” Flame whispered and hugged Jason, he rested his head on Jason’s shoulder. Jason took Flame’s hand from around his torso and led him deeper into the cave, they came to a small crawl space that enlargened itself to the size of a hallway. Flame stretched out his palm and a warm light started, flickering and dancing.
“I have a feeling Emma went this way,” Jason quietly spoke, Flame nodded.
They continued walking through the long tunnel in silence until they reached the end. At the end of the tunnel, there was an expansive room, Jason stepped in and the room was filled with a dark mist, when Flame stepped in it turned into hot embers, and they burned Jason’s hands and face, Flame started to shield Jason from the embers.
Just as quickly as they started they stopped, both Flame and Jason scanned the room, Jason rolling a nat 20 on perception, and he saw a shadow sweep across the room. Flame quickly noticed it too and blasted a ball of fire near the shadow, the fire continued to burn and illuminated the shadow.
The shadow stood on its hind legs, gnarly fangs dripped in cloudy green saliva. Wirey fur covered in bright red, rusty old swords and rotting wood stuck out of its bulky body. It let out a fearsome roar, saliva flying all over Jason his skin searing, he let out a piercing wail.
Flame saw red, and in an instant, a giant battle axe appeared in his hands, he ran at the monster and cut it into its flesh, it roared again and began to try slashing at Flame, he jumped. Flame’s arm sizzled with acid, and he hissed through his teeth. The blade started to glow, and fire licked the blade of the axe, he sent it flying. It struck the creature,
Jason groaned in pain, he held his arm, it felt like a bullet shot through his arm. He hesitantly held his arm up to the creature, a purple circle appearing in front of his hand, he took a deep breath.
“Flame! Move!” He called out, Flame whipped his head around to him and stepped back.
Jason started to whisper a small chant, a magnificent circle with different symbols and letters appeared underneath the creature, a purple beam shot up and the creature screamed. A perfect circle slowly crumpled from the roof.
“What did you do?” Flame inquired, Jason beamed.
“Curse of Vanishing” Flame nodded and grinned, impressed.
The joy from Jason’s face soon disappeared, and he groaned in pain holding his arm again, Flame ran over to him and gave him a side hug and a wide grin, Jason leaned against him, smiling back.
