XI: "curiosity killed the cat"

Start from the beginning

The rest of the day felt so awkward being in the same place where your attempted murder kept creeping around, at this point you figured living in a hotel room would be better than your current situation, but you had a sneaky suspicion that he'd somehow find his way back to you. He just kept staring at you while you hurriedly along finishing up your regular chores so you could slam the door on him again to get some privacy. "Bob.. how are you even alive" it was during dinner when you finally spoke to him again, he was caught off guard from his eating to look up at you, even if he was a killer he still needed to eat- and you thought it was the best time to finally speak out about your feelings. "... I couldn't say. I made a devotion" he messed with his food, you couldn't help but feel a bit of anger towards him. He's left you abandoned with no word and when you can't admit to a secret he tries to kill you, but he can keep secrets? "Doesn't that seem awfully unfair to you? How you can just easily make me your next meal if I don't say shit you want to hear but you can go around keeping all your dirty little secrets inside? Fuck that" you slammed your fists on the table- you never knew how much pent of rage you have bottled up inside. His eyes widened a bit watching you build with anger, he felt guilty; but you didn't care for that. "What happened to you Bob? Or were you always a liar since the start? You're fucking lucky I like you enough to keep you in hidden. If I had my way, you wouldn't be here." You couldn't control yourself, all that anger and fear just piling on to each other as your words filled with venom infested his mind. You just wanted to go back to the way it was, where what you thought he was had been showering you with love and affection instead of fear and hatred, he hurt you and he needed his own taste of medicine. "... I'm in a cult." He got up from his seat as he spoke, "they gave me a way to protect myself from death, from anything. If I just kept doing what I was doing I was secure.. but meeting you put a danger on my life.. and yours. If I didn't leave then they would of went after you- I didn't want you to be hurt or worst. The thing keeping me alive.." he lifted his shirt to show what seemed to be a necklace, thick with gold chain that surrounded a teal like gem placed in the middle, your eyes peered into it like it stared into your soul.. you felt almost hypnotized. "I wouldn't be surprised if they try to start searching for my body- it controls me like a puppet. I don't mean to try and harm you, I just worry you'll learn too much about me.. well, I guess that's foolish now huh?" His smile weakened as you stared at him with shock. What the FUC- "what? Wait wait wait- you're in a cult?" Standing up with wobbling legs you felt numb, he reached over and caught you to help you toward the couch. You felt tears well up in your eyes, why did you come to this god damn town? You knew there was something going on and you just ignored all the red signs that blared bright at you. A cult? A serial killer? This town was the cliché setting for a horror film. "I guess curiosity does kill the cat.." you chuckle nervously, Bob seemed to look down at you with concern; you just wanted to rest. You felt a hand slither onto your back, goosebumps invade your skin as your eyes make their way onto Bobs, no more of that hunger.. it was his true self that faced you in that tense moment. "I'll protect you. And I know I might try to harm you- but we can find ways to control me. After all, you did say you would help" his hearty laugh got your heart caught in your throat, a feeling you haven't felt in such a long time crept its way back into your life like a closed door being unlocked, this feeling of remembrance got you craving for more. "I'll do whatever it takes to help you, Bob. Just.. don't harm my friends. Especially Lila" you held out your hand, pinky raised up for a promise, he seemed to hesitate but gladly returned the promise by interlocking his with yours. You locked eyes with him more as the two of you had your thoughts swirl around in a daze with each sharp breath taken in the thick air of silence, you can feel your heart race as your eyes wander down. He smirked noticing your gaze fall on his complexion, his hand reaching for your cheek to rub it, you were unsure whenever to lean towards the palm of his hand. Careful thinking lead you to continue with it.. the two of you felt high tension in the moment. You didn't want to fall for him again, but he made it so hard to resist-

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
"It's the police, Y/N. We'd like to speak with you about the night of Halloween."

"Ah shit-!" You jumped out of your seat. "quick quick hide hide!" You shoved him upstairs as you quickly made your way to the door, making sure he was out of sight you opened the door to face.. Jack and John, the towns only police officers who did a damn thing around the place ( or at least tried to ), they had been regulars at your store to most likely grab a cup of coffee before the job. "Hey John! Hey Jack! What do you want to talk about? Oh please, come in, I'll make some coffee for you two." You ushered them inside towards your kitchen praying that Bob wouldn't make any noise from upstairs, "so; we want to know what you experienced during that night. We heard from Streber that he last remembered seeing you being chased after Bob Velseb- or in this case, the devil." John sat back in his chair watching you start up a pot of coffee,  your attention fell on the two officers for a moment to think of what to say. "He dragged me into the woods to try and kill me. I fell unconscious due to being slammed aggressively into a tree- from there all out when I woke up I was still in the forest. I guess he just left while I was blacked out. Why do you ask?" You finished the pot and started to pour a cup for the both of them, making yourself a cup you started to take a sip.
"We found out his body is missing. Knowing you two had some relation in the past we'd figured we ask if you had anything to do with his disappearance." John explained, you almost choked on your coffee causing you to burn the back of your throat.

You were Simply right under their noses.
