Kabanata 23

Maya-maya pa, Calix backed away from me and went inside the bathroom. Narinig ko lamang ang saglit na pagbukas ng gripo saka siya lumabas mula roon. Pagewang-gewang na ito kaya agad ko itong dinaluhan.

"For goodness' sake, Calix! You're so drunk!" I gasped as I guided him.

"No, I'm not. Kaunti lang . . ." He murmured huskily.

Calix Laxamana looks so incredibly hot with his messy hair and drowsy eyes, I couldn't deny that fact anymore. I scoffed and put him on my bed.

"Did you drive your car at this state?" Pagalit na tanong ko sa kaniya.

His lips protruded a bit on the sight of mine. Dalawang beses siyang umiling at pilit na idinilat ang pagod na mga mata.

"Don't be mad, please. I'm sorry . . ."

I rolled my eyes. "Why did you drink, anyway?"

Calix sighed frustratingly. He just got home from a vacation leave he didn't tell me that he can't just dump. I wasn't able to do anything dahil kahit tawag ko ay wala siyang sinasagot. This misunderstanding is killing me yet I couldn't do anything about it.

"I just heard . . ." He trailed off, "about Kiel and . . ."

My brows immediately furrowed because of a hint of anger. "And what?"

Calix shut his eyes and gasped. I can almost feel his pain and anxiousness.

"About what was happening here while I was gone . . ."

"I can't understand you. Let's talk about it tomorrow when you're sober-"

"And now he's here, beside this room." Putol niya. "I want to understand it, really, but . . . it makes me anxious and scared . . ."

"Stop it. Bukas na nga tayo mag-usap . . ."

"Aalis ka na ba? Iiwan mo na ba ako?" He whispered painfully.

I pursed my lips. I sighed and stared at him. Nakaupo na ito sa dulo ng kama, bagsak ang mga balikat, at bahagyang nakayuko habang ako naman ay nakatayo sa harapan niya, nakadungaw.

"What did you say?" I asked critically.

"Si Kiel . . ." Ulit niya at muling suminghap. "He's the father of our Zick . . ."

"Do you really think I didn't know that, Calix?" My voice trembled. "Let's not talk about this now. Bukas na tayo mag-usap."

"Aalis ka na?" He repeated, his voice laced with fear and pain.

I bit my lower lip.

Calix sighed and lifted his eyes on me. "Iiwan mo na ba ako? Iiwan niyo na ako ni Eizickiel?"

I frowned. "Why the hell would I do that?" My voice raised. I crossed my arms and glared at confused Calix. "Why would I leave the love of my life?"

"Because you and Kiel . . . you still love each other; I can feel it."

Bigla siyang umayos ng upo ngunit hindi pa rin makatingin sa 'kin. Lalong tumindi ang paninikip ng dibdib ko dahil sa naririnig at nakikita ko.

I heaved a deep sigh.

Ilang segundo pa akong natulala, tila pinoproseso ang narinig. I stifle a sad smile as I continued to stare at him. I do not know what to feel anymore. It's not that he's right but . . . fuck it. Bakit niya ito sinasabi ngayon?

"Iiwan mo na ako?" He asked again. Terror overtook his face.

I immediately shook my head and reached for his face.
