Denki pov:
"Denki, we're here." Denki's mother called from next to him, a wide smile plastered on her thin lips. He smiled back at her fidgeting nervously in the seat beside her, taking out his earbuds and putting them in his bag.
Denki loved his mother, her kindness and thoughtfulness always made him happy. She's been nothing short of the best parent anyone could ask for, but that doesn't mean he agrees with all her decisions. Like her idea to send him to a camp for the summer, he didn't even know anyone there! In her eyes it was a way to make 'new friends' or something like that, as he would see them around a lot next year when he went to his new school and shit. Being a new student in your junior year was never fun, 1. Having no friend group, 2. Lonely. Denki hated the idea.
While dealing with his nerves he helped lift his things out of the trunk, taking a deep sigh he started towards the entrance.. His mother was working a new job, it would be better to follow along and save her from another headache.
She popped out of the driver's side door and gave him a few words of encouragement, waiting for a response back. He thanked her, and reassured her he'd call her at least 2 times a week, that hed be safe, behave, all of the stupid stuff parents remind their children of when its appropriate.
"I'm gonna miss you." She finally admitted, pulling him into a tight hug. The action caught Denki off guard, but he hugged her back smiling as he said "i'm gonna miss you too".
That's when the yellow haired boy noticed a tall purple haired guy who looked around his age. The guy was trying not to laugh as he watched my mom's histarics.
I shot him a glare, who did he think he was?
I turned away, choosing to ignore the smug bastard. Denki pulled back from the hug, "Mom, I have to go." He softly reminded his mother, her eyes now filled with tears.
"I know, I just.." she sniffed. "Just be careful, Denki. And have fun! You never know who you might meet!" She winked. "And remember, call me if you are swaying into your old habits again. Or tell the nurse, I'm sure she'll know what to do."
"I know mom, but I really do have to go, you're holding up traffic." He motioned to the cars behind us, patiently waiting to park. Though I could tell most of them were getting annoyed.
"Alright, alright, go." She smiled.
"Bye mom, I love you!"
"Love you too, Denki."
He watched as she drove off, leaving him to figure out how the hell he was going to carry two large suitcases, four small ones and a backpack.
"Need a hand?" A voice behind me called, chuckling. He jumped at the sudden proximity of the voice, but his frightened look soon turned into an annoyed one.
It was the same dude who was laughing earlier. But, that didn't change the fact that he definitely needed help carrying his bags into the cabin.
"Yeah, you can grab the..." The other boy just smiled at me and started wheeling a massive suitcase, carrying the other large one, and stacked on top two small bags. "Or you could just grab whatever." He mumbled to the open air.
When the small boy entered his side of the cabin, he was immediately greeted with a bunch of bunks closely packed together.
Everything seemed clean, well... for the most part, with a bathroom in the far corner, and another door on the back wall.
"Which bed do you want?" He asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Which is the farthest away from you?" Denki innocently asked.
Gently dropping the bags, he faked hurt, and took a step back.
"It's this one." He finally admitted, leading him to a bed pressed against the wall near the door.
"I'll take this one then."
The purple haired guy only rolled his eyes, but then settled them on Denki, he set up his mattress on the bottom bunk. After a good few seconds the yellow haired boy scoffed, and turned his face to him.
"Is there something you need?" I said to the taller male.
"It's your first time at camp, isn't it?" He concluded, his shoulder now resting on the wall.
"Yeah, want an award, genius?"
"No." He quipped. "What's your name?"
"Denki." I replied, securing the sheet under the mattress. "What's yours?"
"Shinso, how old are you?"
"What's with the interrogation?"
He shrugged. "Just trying to get to know a little bit about my new camper before camp starts." I sighed.
"I'm 16, you?"
"18."
"What's the WiFi password?" Denki questioned, looking over all the reasonable options.
"Just let me do it. The password is a bunch of random letters and numbers." Shinso explained, putting his hand out for my phone.
Denki skeptically handed it to him, as he typed in the password and handed it to me in a matter of seconds.
"Thanks." He mumbled.
"No problem. Alright, I've gotta get back to my post in case any other campers arrive, but this was a nice chat, Denki. Hope we get to do it again sometime." He rescinded, a hint of sarcasm.
"Yeah" He agreed, as the taller boy walked outside the cabin.
Denki let go of a breath he wasn't aware he was holding, and continued to set up his area.
Done in a matter of minutes, Denki stepped back onto the porch catching the other guys attention once more.
"All done?" He asked. "Yeah." I answered.
"Alright," Shinso started. "Well, welcome to Pine cabin! Everyones hanging at the soccer field, so if you wanna head down this hill, then take a mild right and cross the bridge. Another one of your counselors is gonna be down there. His name is Tenya Iida, it's kinda hard to miss him."
Denki nodded and thanked him, as he began his journey down to the "soccer field".
Soon he crossed over the old wooden planks, and was introduced to loud music, and a whole lot of people. He took a deep breath and prepared himself for the worst.
It seemed everyone was doing something, a mix of counselors and kids focused on their own activities. Some throwing frisbees, others shooting on the goal, some playing bean bag toss, but most just sitting in circles and talking.
I didn't think these types of camps existed.
They seemed so unrealistic. Like they were meant to be written in movies and books, but I didn't think they were a real thing. Everyone together doing their own thing in total peace.
Great, he thought.
