in the year 2016, a man named Darrell is having his 50th birthday. he wakes up and gets dressed in a navy blue turtleneck sweater and khakis. he goes to the kitchen to hear his 7-year-old daughter complaining about how she wished it snowed since it's January but Darrell's wife says "sweetie, we live in Arizona it's never gonna snow here." "Good morning honey," Darrell tells his wife. The wife quickly gets her daughter and son and they sing happy birthday to Darrell. "Thank you, Nicole." Nicole tries to get the kids out the door and on the school bus. Nicole gives a plate of eggs with the number 50 on it made of bacon bits. Once he finishes he gets his coat and his hat and goes outside. "It's a little colder than usual." Darrell thinks to himself as he gets into his car. He looks over to the passenger seat and sees a pile of unpaid bills and sighs. He starts driving and puts the song "Chamber of reflection" on the radio and is chilling to the music.
At a stoplight, he sees his co-worker Veronica and he whispers to himself "why isn't she on her way to work? Once he gets to work she goes to a science classroom and he sits in his chair as they start walking in the room greet each other, and sit down to get ready for class. He sees a student named Barty looking more tired than usual. He sees a student named Anissa walk up to him with a one-hundred-dollar bill and hands it to him and he quickly puts a small bag into her hoodie's pocket. Darrell doesn't think much about it and after 8 classes he is driving home and starts having trouble breathing and then passes out and crashes into the backyard of a house. He wakes up in the hospital bed and has no deadly injuries. He only has a couple of cuts on his arms but that's it. the doctor asks why he crashed. and Darrell responded with. "I-I, I don't know it, had trouble breathing then, boom."
The doctor takes him to another room where there is an MRI scanner and Darrel has a worried look on his face. the doctor says "it's just to see if there is anything wrong and if there isn't then you can go home." Derrell gets on the MRI and after the doctor says "Derral, I'm so sorry but, you have lung cancer... Darrell?" "yeah, yeah mhm," Derrell says. "Hey buddy, I'm so sorry."
Once Darrall gets home Nicole rushes to the door to see a depressed Derrell at the door she says "Dr. Richardson e-mailed me. I'm so sorry."
He says it's okay and that he's going to eat dinner after a shower. Nicole says "ok I'll go get the kids." Once Darrell gets in the shower he reaches into the cabinet and grabs an electric shave and buzzes his head and shelves his hair and mustache. Once he gets to the dining room his son Kevin says "Dad! your hair fell off!" that made Darrel mad so he said "your 16 stop goofing off I Have lung cancer and you're joking about it! you need to calm down on the jokes for once!" and that causes Nicole to bring Darrell to the front porch. Nicole says that he can't be acting like this even though he had a bad birthday you can yell at other people. she tells him that he needs to take a walk so he grabs his coat and walks. he is walking past veronica's house he sees Barty fall from the roof and drop one of those that he saw in class.
Barty looks like he's hurt so Darrel rushes over to help him up and pick up the bag. he picks up the bag and glances at it and sees that it's drugs. he confronts Barty and says "why are you selling dru-." then realizes "how much do you make off of this." Barty responds with "Woah. bro Mr. Smith your hai-." "yeah, I know my hair is fine I shaved it because I have... lung cancer."
"oh yeah, I make about 100 a pound. why?"
Darrel remembers that chemo is going to cost a lot of money and they don't have enough for it.
"I wanna sell drugs with you."
