Alex pov
Apparently I had slept through the entire flight and was glad I didn't have to deal with the awkward tension. I was woken up by the wheels touching the ground and got startled as I looked up right into my sisters emerald green eyes. "We're here" she whispered my way before reaching out for some baggage that was stored behind me.
I instantly noticed her unease as she kept looking at me from the corner of her eyes. I turned around to see the witch girl avoiding eye contact at any cost and realized what had happened during my time asleep. "She told you" I walked up behind Nat and tried to sound as offended as I could. Secretly I was glad I didn't have to tell her myself, being unable to keep my own emotions in check when seeing her in pain.
"I asked her to" was all she said as she reassuringly squeezed my hand before opening the cargo door. Cap stepped out in front of us, strutting over to what could only be described as an overly flashy superhero base, the Avengers compound.
I stayed a reasonable distance behind everyone as we walked through numerous brightly lid corridors until the group held still. I heard some conversations going on but wasn't too interested as I let my eyes inspect every detail about the building. The technology that was incorporated was military grade and it's defenses were nothing to laugh at, this place was almost like a fortress.
As I made my way over to the rest of the gang I apparently interrupted some sort of moment when just the sound of my footsteps was enough to make all eyes turn my way. Of course I wished I could magically disappear but I had to make due with trying to crawl away in my baggy clothes.
"Guys, this is my sister, Alex" Natasha announced and I tried my hardest to vanish into thin air. I was glad I was still wearing my hood when I let my eyes drop to the ground, trying to avoid any contact whatsoever.
"Hey, it's nice to meet you, I'm Bruce" some guy in torn up clothes mentioned my way. I wished I could ignore him but I could feel Natasha's stern eyes from miles away. "Hi" I mumbled as I briefly looked up and gave him a nod.
"You're really a ball of sunshine, huh kid" I heard Sam quietly joke next to me which got him a firm jab in the ribs. "Shut it bird man" I growled back, specifically making sure neither Steve nor Natasha heard my remark. He let out a soft chuckle as he reached out to take my hood off, exposing me to the bright rays of LED lights, causing me to squint for a moment. "Now we can all finally see your adorable face" he laughed as he avoided the death glare I sent his way.
"Bruce, I was wondering if you could take a look at something" my sister interrupted our childish interaction as she held out her hand, motioning me over to join her. "Sure, of course. My lab is right this way" he said leading off. Natasha gave Steve a look and silently exchanged a few words before following the doctor with me in her wake.
"So, what can I do for you" the man began as he sat down behind a desk that was littered with papers and other junk. Nat gently pushed me down in a seat across while she sat down next to me. I heard a last pair of footsteps and turned around to see the redhead standing in the doorway. I furrowed my brows at her but before I could even begin to argue, Natasha cut me off. "I asked her to be here. Maybe she can help" she said as her hand reached out to mine. I gave her an annoyed look in return but decided against causing a fit and stayed quiet.
The room apparently waited for me to start the conversation but as I definitely wasn't feeling like talking, so instead Natasha took the initiative and tried to explain best what was going on. "Some time ago, Alex got exposed to an unknown substance and ever since she has been feeling... off. We were wondering if you could figure out a way to, potentially, reverse the effect it had on her."
Her description of the situation was very simplistic but I guess it worked. I could see the man giving my sister a strange look which she quickly dismissed, probably indicating she didn't want to tell what was really going on with me present. I rolled my eyes and let out a sigh as he focused his attention back onto me. "Alright, I can take a look for you" he cheerily said my way.
