His head hurts before he even tries opening his eyes.
There are people whispering around him, most likely trying not to wake him up and failing miserably. When he does open his eyes, all he sees are plain white walls, empty of patterns. He still doesn't know where he is or how he ended up here.
He doesn't have to worry, though, because the minute he opens his eyes, Scorpius is looking right at him with his big bright eyes and a relieved smile embellishing his face.
"Albus, are you alright?" He asks, looking directly at him. Albus knows he's holding back from showing how worried he really is for Albus' sake. He thinks it's cute.
"Well, I'm here, so.." He says, quietly, now looking around the room and realizing he's in St. Mungo's. "I've definitely been better." He says, throwing his head back on the bed in the usual dramatic Albus way.
"Pomfrey refuses to tell me what happened," Scorpius says, sulking. Albus knows he wants to know, and given how well they know each other by now, he also knows Scorpius won't ask him about it to avoid hurting him.
He thinks about it, then frowns, "I also don't know what happened, I don't remember." This makes Scorpius' eyes widen in worry, and before he says anything else, they're interrupted.
"You don't remember, you say?" Madam Pomfrey comes marching in, examining Albus. "That must be from the concussion. You had an accident with a potion that made you pass out, you must've hit your head with an object nearby." She says, still staring at him, trying to pick up on any other signs of something serious.
That seems to awaken him. He remembers now, the potion he was making. He feels stupid for making such a rookie mistake. But Scorpius doesn't let him deal with the beginning of a self hatred session because, as soon as he notices it setting in Albus' eyes, he starts talking again.
"So he's going to be okay? Right?" He asks Madam Pomfrey.
"Yes, he just needs to rest here tonight." She says, and before Albus can protest, she continues, "It's not up for debate, Mr. Potter. I've already mentioned this to your parents, they said they're on their way."
This makes Albus stiffen, only a little. He has no reason to, it's not like his parents will scold him for making a mistake, right? It's not like he wanted to spend his Friday night in St Mungo's.
But he knows his parents are likely to blow this out of proportion, make things seem worse than they actually are. His mom will get unnecessarily worried about him.
Madam Pomfrey says nothing else and leaves the room.
"Scorp?" Albus calls, feeling suddenly overwhelmed.
"Yes? What is it?" He asks, earnestly, making eye contact with him. "What do you need, Albus?"
He speaks with such confidence, so sure of himself and willing to do whatever Albus might need. He can't believe he's lucky enough to have Scorpius in his life. "I need..." He hesitates, his voice coming out shier than he expected.
Scorpius just looks at him, waiting patiently.
Albus coughs and asks, "Hug?"
The second he says it, Scorpius' face melts before he throws himself on top of Albus, attaching his arms around his torso and hiding his head on Albus' neck. He's suddenly glad to have made the potion wrong, if it makes Scorpius hug him like this.
Minutes later, Scorpius turns from being on top of him, to laying on the left side of the bed, half of his body still on Albus' using it as a cushion, while his hands are still hugging his neck. He feels comfortable so he doesn't say anything.
