How are you?
That is a question that can never be fully answered.
How do you put millions of thoughts, moments, and emotions, into one simple reply?
It is truly meant to be a simple question, one asked to start conversations with ease.
But how could they know that the question is anything but easy for you?
Maybe you don't want to give an honest answer. Perhaps you don't want to let them that far in, for its better to let the negativity stay stuffed away under lock and key inside the prison of your mind. Maybe that's why you simply reply with,
Good.
But what is the difference between good and bad emotions? Events?
Is it that feeling in your gut or the tears in your eyes?
Do you simply accept what society deems good or bad?
They say that lust is a sin, while patience is a virtue.
Though you can you not lust for someone's kindness and strive to make it mirrored in your own?
And if a man is dying on the pavement in front of you, wouldn't patience when getting to him only cause further harm?
But you cannot unpack all of these thoughts in this interaction that lasts no more than three seconds. A fleeting moment in the eternity of pondering.
Maybe that's why some people simply don't ponder these questions, for there is no time to decide whether or not to expand you statement when the other person says almost the moment after you,
Well, that's good.
And its as simple as that. You're done. The thoughts and emtions and the moment, they're gone. Just as the person in front of you is gone, moving on as if you hadn't just had an epiphany, changing your entire way of thinking.
But maybe that's for the better. Or maybe it's not.
That's for you to decide.
