Chapter 1 ~The Note~

It started off as a normal October day. It was cold outside like it usually is during the month. As the sun started to set, everything started to become strange and eerie. Once the moon was shining that's when everything started to come to life, The wind was blowing making the branches on the trees sway, the dogs barked, the cats howled, The crickets chirped loudly, And you could hear the frogs croaking. I was walking home from work and just listening to all the noises, I felt the breeze continue to hit my face, it was a calm breeze but it felt amazing especially after a long day at work. Once I arrived home I unlocked the door went inside and locked it behind me. I decided I was gonna take a shower then went to bed. Around 3:30 AM I was woken to a knock on my door, so I got out of bed, threw on a house coat and went downstairs. I turn on a lamp in the living room then walk to the door. I didn't see anybody at the door and I wasn't about to unlock my door at this time of hour. So I walked away I turned to my lamp because I was going to turn out the light, When a second knock on my door scared me and caused me to jump back I was holding my chest breathing heavily. I went over to my door and looked out the side window, I noticed a note on my welcome rug (just a reminder, welcome doesn't necessarily mean anyone is welcome😑). I unlocked my door really fast and because my ass isn't taking any chances, I grabbed my reacher from my umbrella holder (yes, I have a reacher Fuck off😆) I open the door with caution and quickly grabbed the note and slammed the door and locked it. The note was folded with green tape keeping it intact, I went over to my couch and looked in the folder note over. My gut was telling me to open it but my mind said "Phoenix this is a bad idea, you yourself already knows once you read this note your curiousness is going to kick in and you'll be putting yourself at risk once again. You think youd learn but no everything sparks your curiosity". I broke The green seal on the note anyway and read it. The note said

" Phoenix Alexander, today is October 13, you have been requested to join the colony at your own convenience the address is 67 Winslow Ln. Missouri, hope to see you there. When you arrive you'll need a password say (dark Forest, with the wind and watch it blow)"

With one eyebrow raised, I turn my head to the side and my thoughts were correct I am curious I don't even know who that is but she knows who I am and Im requested to join the colony at my own convenience. I just shook my head at the thought of anyone "Needing" my presence, I've basically been to myself since I turned 18 except when I'm around friends or family. I put the note in my lamp side table and started walking back upstairs to go back to bed. After all I'm off work today so I'm sleeping in and dare anyone to wake me up because they'll hear a few choice words that old women would frown upon. I mean I didn't care what they thought but my days off were my sleeping in, relaxing all day, doing absolutely nothing days and I become very aggravated when I'm disturbed. Occasionally I would go out on my days off to get weekly groceries or a night out on the town but usually, I'm a big homebody. At 8:30 AM my phone rang I groaned and answered it.

"Hello"
"Hi is this Phoenix"
"Who's speaking"
" well my name is Rosetta I'm calling in regards to the letter you received last night"
" yes I received a letter at the ass crack after midnight I do not appreciate random people coming to my house at that time of hour, I was asleep please don't let it happen again and also don't call me this early, i'm free between the hours of 1:30 PM - 9:30PM thank you goodbye"

I hung up then I fell back asleep. At 3:30 PM I received another call from the same number I answered it in annoyance.

"Hello, how may I help you"
" hello, Phoenix my name is Andy and I'm calling in regards from your last conversation with Rosetta"
" yes, I told her not to call me at early hours of the morning or have strange people come to my house late at night. I don't appreciate it"
" I completely understand but as you read the letter, we would love your presence at the colony at your convenience"
